  jo saahib terai man bhaavai ||
(He alone sings Your Ambrosial Naam, 
who is pleasing to Your Mind, O my Lord and Master.)

too(n) sa(n)tan kaa sa(n)t tumaare 
  sa(n)t saahib man maanaa jeeau ||2||
(You belong to the Saints, and the Saints belong to You. 
The minds of the Saints are attuned to You, O my Lord and Master.)



sifat saalaahan teraa hukam rajaiee ||
(To praise You is to follow Your Command and Your Will.)

so giaan dhiaan jo tudh bhaiee ||
(That which pleases You is spiritual wisdom and meditation.)

soiee jap jo prabh jeeau bhaavai 
  bhaanai poor giaanaa jeeau ||1||
(That which pleases God is chanting and meditation; 
to be in harmony with His Will is perfect spiritual wisdom.)

a(n)mrit naam teraa soiee gaavai ||

  too sa(n)tan ke praanaa jeeau ||3||
(Your Saints are very dear to You. 
You are the breath of life of the Saints.) 

aun sa(n)tan kai meraa man kurabaane ||
(My mind is a sacrifice to those Saints who know You,)

jin too(n) jaataa jo tudh man bhaane ||
(and are pleasing to Your Mind.)

tin kai sa(n)g sadhaa sukh paiaa 
  har ras naanak tirapat aghaanaa jeeau ||4||
(In their company I have found a lasting peace. 
Nanak is satisfied and fulfilled with the Sublime Essence of the Lord.)

(O my King, my Lord, 
beholding the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, I am at peace.)

hamaree bedhan too jaanataa saahaa 
  avar kiaa jaanai koi ||
(You alone know my inner pain, O King; 
what can anyone else know?)

saachaa saahib sach too mere saahaa 
  teraa keeaa sach sabh hoi ||
(O True Lord and Master, You are truly my King; 
whatever You do, all that is True.)

jhooThaa kis kau aakheeaai 
  saahaa dhoojaa naahee koi ||1||
(Who should I call a liar? 
There is no other than You, O King.)

sabhanaa vich too varatadhaa saahaa 
  sabh tujheh dhiaaveh dhin raat ||
(You are pervading and permeating in all; O King, 
everyone meditates on You, day and night.)

sabh tujh hee thaavahu ma(n)gadhe mere saahaa 
  too sabhanaa kareh ik dhaat ||2||
(Everyone begs of You, O my King; 
You alone give gifts to all.)

sabh ko tujh hee vich hai mere saahaa 
  tujh te baahar koiee naeh ||
(All are under Your Power, O my King; 
none at all are beyond You.)

sabh jeea tere too sabhas dhaa mere saahaa 
  sabh tujh hee maeh samaeh ||3||
(All beings are Yours-You belong to all, O my King. 
All shall merge and be absorbed in You.)

sabhanaa kee too aas hai mere piaare 
  sabh tujheh dhiaaveh mere saeh ||
(You are the hope of all, O my Beloved; 
all meditate on You, O my King.)

jiau bhaavai tiau rakh too mere piaare 
  sach naanak ke paatisaeh ||4||
(As it pleases You, protect and preserve me, O my Beloved;

(Without serving the True Guru, he suffers in terrible pain, 
and throughout the four ages, he wanders aimlessly.)

(I am poor and meek, and throughout the ages, 
You are the Great Giver - please, grant me the understanding of the Shabad.)

(I have purchased the Lord's Name; 
its sweetness and value are unlimited.)

mol amolo sach ghar ddolo 
  prabh bhaavai taa mu(n)dh bhalee ||
(His value is invaluable; the Beloved dwells in His true home. 
If it is pleasing to God, then He blesses His bride.)

eik sa(n)g har kai kareh raleeaa 
  hau pukaaree dhar khalee ||
(Some enjoy sweet pleasures with the Lord, 
while I stand crying at His door.)

karan kaaran samarath sreedhar 
  aap kaaraj saare ||
(The Creator, the Cause of causes, 
the All-powerful Lord Himself arranges our affairs.)

then, I came to dwell at Benares.)

jaisaa magahar taisee kaasee 
  ham ekai kar jaanee ||
(As is Magahar, so is Benares; 
I see them as one and the same.)

ham niradhan jiau ih dhan paiaa 
  marate fooT gumaanee ||3||
(I am poor, but I have obtained this wealth of the Lord; 
the proud are bursting with pride, and die.)

karai gumaan chubheh tis soolaa 
  ko kaaddan kau naahee ||
(One who takes pride in himself is stuck with thorns; 
no one can pull them out.)

ajai su chobh kau bilal bilaate 
  narake ghor pachaahee ||4||
(Here, he cries bitterly, and hereafter, 
he burns in the most hideous hell.)

kavan narak kiaa surag bichaaraa 
  sa(n)tan dhouoo raadhe ||
(What is hell, and what is heaven? 
The Saints reject them both.)

ham kaahoo kee kaan na kaddate 
  apane gur parasaadhe ||5||
(I have no obligation to either of them, 
by the Grace of my Guru.)

ab tau jai chadde si(n)ghaasan 
  mile hai saari(n)gapaanee ||
(Now, I have mounted to the throne of the Lord; 
I have met the Lord, the Sustainer of the World.)

raam kabeeraa ek bhe hai 
  koi na sakai pachhaanee ||6||
(The Lord and Kabeer have become one. 
No one can tell them apart.)

Blessed is Guru Nanak Dev who has earned great spiritual achievements.
{“Kamai” in the spiritual parlance means accumulating spiritual wealth as a result of dedicated meditation and religious discipline. It is not related to worldly wealth or earning. It is a “Kamai” of the Naam (Name) of the Almighty, of the Shabad (Sabda in Sanskrit) or spreading the spiritual message of the Almighty Lord.}

sidh bolan subh bachan 
  dhan naanak teree vaddee kamaiee |
(Now, speaking benign words, the siddhs said, 
Nanak, your achievement is great.)

(Discussion with the siddhs and tour of Multan)

baabe keetee sidh gosaT 
  sabadh saa(n)t sidhaa(n) vich aaiee |

and because of the energy of the sabad those siddhs attained peace.)

jin melaa sivaraat dhaa 
  khaT dharasan aadhes karaiee |
(Conquering the Sivratri fair 
Baba made the followers of six philosophies bow.)

sidh bolan subh bachan 
  dhan naanak teree vaddee kamaiee |
(Now, speaking benign words, the siddhs said, 
Nanak, your achievement is great.)

vaddaa purakh paragaTiaa 
  kalijug a(n)dhar jot jagaiee |
(You, emerging like a greatman,
in kaliyug, you have diffused the light (of knowledge) all around.)

melio baabaa uThiaa 
  mulataane dhee jaarat jaiee |
(Getting up from that fair, 
Baba went to the pilgrimage of Multan.)

ago(n) peer mulataan dhe 
  dhudh kaToraa bhar lai aaiee |
(In Multan, the pir presented,
a bowl of milk filled up to brims (which means That faquirs here are already in plenty).)

baabe kadd kar bagal te 
  cha(n)belee dhudh vich milaiee |
(Baba took out a jasmine flower from his bag,
and floated it on the milk (which meant that he wa not going to put anybody to trouble).)

jiau saagar vich ga(n)g samaiee ||44||
(It was such a scene as if the Ganges were merging into the sea.)

(The foolish physician did not know,
that the pain was in the mind.)

  pakaR dda(n)ddole baa(n)h ||
(The physician was called in; 
he touched my arm and felt my pulse.)

bholaa vaidh na jaaniee 
  karak kaleje maeh ||1||
(The foolish physician did not know,
that the pain was in the mind.)

vaidhaa vaidh suvaidh too 
  pahilaa(n) rog pachhaan ||
(O physician, you are a competent physician, 
if you first diagnose the disease.)

aaisaa dhaaroo loR lahu 
  jit va(n)n(j)ai rogaa ghaan ||
(Prescribe such a remedy, 
by which all sorts of illnesses may be cured.)

jit dhaaroo rog uThieh 
  tan sukh vasai aai ||
(Administer that medicine, which will cure the disease, 
and allow peace to come and dwell in the body.)

rog gavaieh aapanaa 
  ta naanak vaidh sadhai ||2||
(Only when you are rid of your own disease, 
O Nanak, will you be known as a physician.)

(The Elements -- Wind, Water and Fire -- sing of Thee,
the Righteous Judge of Dharma sings at your door.)

Gaveh Chit Gupt likh jaaney
  Likh likh Dharam vicharay
(Chitr and Gupt, the angels of the conscious and the subconscious
who record actions, and the Righteous Judge of Dharma
who judges this record sing.)

Gaaveh Isser Barma Devi
  Sohan sada sawaray
Gaveh Ind Indasan baethay
  Devtian dar naley
(Shiva, Brahma, and the Goddess of Beauty, ever adorned, sing.
Indra, seated upon his throne, sings with the deities at Your door.)

(The mohinis, the enchanting heavenly beauties
who entice hearts in this world, in paradise,
and in the underworld of the subconscious sing.)

(To Thee sing thy jewels (saints) and the sixty-eight places of pilgrimage.)

Gaaveh jodh mahabal soora
Gaaveh khani charay
(To Thee sing the mighty warriors, the heroes of great prowess, and all

(To Thee sing the earthly regions, the heavens and the universes created and
supported by Thee.)

Seyi Tudh no gaaveh jo tudh bhavan
Rattay tayray bhagat rasaley
(Those that please Thee also sing Thy praises and are saturated with Thy
love and devotion,)

Hoar taytay gaavan
Se maen chit na aavan
(And there are countless more that sing of Thee, whom one cannot even
remember,)

Nanak kiya vicharay
(All lie beyond the ken of Nanak, 

Soyi soyi sada sach Sahib
(He is and is alone the ever-existent Lord.)

Saacha saachi nayee
(He is the Truth and true is His Holy Naam,)

Hai bhi ho-si jay na ja-si
(He is, and shall exist forevermore,)

Rachna jin rachayee
(He who created all Creations shall never depart though worlds be
destroyed.)

Rangi rangi bhati kar kar
Jinsi maya jin upayee
(He who made Nature with its many colors and many forms, looks after His
own handiwork, as it behooves His own
Greatness.)

Kar kar vekhae keeta aapna
Jiv tis di vadiyayee
(He is the Supreme Master and does what He lists,)

Jo tis bhavae so yee karsi
Hukam na karna jayee
(He is the King of Kings, the Almighty Lord,)

So Pat-Sah Saaha Pat-Sahib

(And ours, O Nanak, is only to abide His Will)

(Beneath the tree, 
all beings have gathered.)

(Some are hot-headed, 
and some speak very sweetly.)

asat udhot bhiaa uTh chale 
  jiau jiau aaudh vihaaneeaa ||1||
(Sunset has come, and they rise up and depart; 
their days have run their course and expired.)

paap karedhaR sarapar muThe ||
(Those who committed sins are sure to be ruined.)

ajaraieel faRe faR kuThe ||
(Azraa-eel, the Angel of Death, seizes and tortures them.)

dhojak paae sirajanahaarai 
  lekhaa ma(n)gai baaneeaa ||2||
(They are consigned to hell by the Creator Lord, 
and the Accountant calls them to give their account.)

sa(n)g na koiee bhieeaa bebaa ||
(No brothers or sisters can go with them.)

maal joban dhan chhodd van(j)esaa ||
(Leaving behind their property, youth and wealth, they march off.)

karan kareem na jaato karataa 
  til peeRe jiau ghaaneeaa ||3||
(They do not know the kind and compassionate Lord; 
they shall be crushed like sesame seeds in the oil-press.)

khus khus laidhaa vasat paraiee ||
(You happily, cheerfully steal the possessions of others,)

vekhai sune terai naal khudhaiee ||
(but the Lord God is with you, watching and listening.)

dhuneeaa lab piaa khaat a(n)dhar 
  agalee gal na jaaneeaa ||4||
(Through worldly greed, you have fallen into the pit; 
you know nothing of the future.)

jam jam marai marai fir ja(n)mai ||
(You shall be born and born again, and die and die again, 
only to be reincarnated again.)

bahut sajai piaa dhes la(n)mai ||
(You shall suffer terrible punishment, on your way to the land beyond.)

jin keetaa tisai na jaanee a(n)dhaa 
taa dhukh sahai paraaneeaa ||5||
(The mortal does not know the One who created him; 
he is blind, and so he shall suffer.)

khaalak thaavahu bhulaa muThaa ||
(Forgetting the Creator Lord, he is ruined.)

dhuneeaa khel buraa ruTh tuThaa ||
(The drama of the world is bad; 
it brings sadness and then happiness.)

sidhak sabooree sa(n)t na milio 
  vatai aapan bhaaneeaa ||6||
(One who does not meet the Saint does not have faith or contentment; 
he wanders just as he pleases.)

maulaa khel kare sabh aape || 
  ik kadde ik lahar viaape ||
(The Lord Himself stages all this drama. 
Some, he lifts up, and some he throws into the waves.)

jiau nachaae tiau tiau nachan 
  sir sir kirat vihaaneeaa ||7||
(As He makes them dance, so do they dance. 
Everyone lives their lives according to their past actions.)

mihar kare taa khasam dhiaaiee ||
(When the Lord and Master grants His Grace, then we meditate on Him.)

sa(n)taa sa(n)gat narak na paiee ||
(In the Society of the Saints, one is not consigned to hell.)

a(n)mirat naam dhaan naanak kau 
  gunn geetaa nit vakhaaneeaa ||8||
(Please bless Nanak with the gift of the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord;

kat kee maiee baap kat keraa 
  kidhoo thaavahu ham aae ||
(Who is our mother, and who is our father? 
Where did we come from?)

agan bi(n)b jal bheetar nipaje 
  kaahe ka(n)m upaae ||1||
(We are formed from the fire of the womb within, and the bubble of water of the sperm. 
For what purpose are we created? )

mere saahibaa kaun jaanai gun tere ||
(O my Master, who can know Your Glorious Virtues?)

kahe na jaanee aaugan mere ||1||
(My own demerits cannot be counted.)

kete rukh birakh ham cheene 
  kete pasoo upaae ||
(I took the form of so many plants and trees, 
and so many animals.)

kete naag kulee meh aae 
  kete pa(n)kh uddaae ||2||
(Many times I entered the families of snakes,
and flying birds.)

haT paTan bij ma(n)dhar bha(n)nai 
  kar choree ghar aavai ||
(I broke into the shops of the city and well-guarded palaces; 
stealing from them, I snuck home again.)

agahu dhekhai pichhahu dhekhai 
  tujh te kahaa chhapaavai ||3||
(I looked in front of me, and I looked behind me, 
but where could I hide from You?)

taT teerath ham nav kha(n)dd dhekhe 
  haT paTan baajaaraa ||
(I saw the banks of sacred rivers, the nine continents, 
the shops and bazaars of the cities.)

lai kai takaRee tolan laagaa 
  ghaT hee meh vanajaaraa ||4||
(Taking the scale, 
the merchant begins to weigh his actions within his own heart.)

jetaa samu(n)dh saagar neer bhariaa 
  tete aaugan hamaare ||
(As the seas and the oceans are overflowing with water, 
so vast are my own sins.)

dhiaa karahu kichh mihar upaavahu 
  ddubadhe pathar taare ||5||
(Please, shower me with Your Mercy, and take pity upon me. 
I am a sinking stone - please carry me across!)

jeeaRaa agan baraabar tapai 
  bheetar vagai kaatee ||
(My soul is burning like fire, 
and the knife is cutting deep.)

pranavat naanak hukam pachhaanai 
  sukh hovai dhin raatee ||6||
(Prays Nanak, recognizing the Lord's Command, 
I am at peace, day and night.)

(The crows have searched my skeleton, 
and eaten all my flesh.)

e dhui nainaa mat chhuhau 
  pir dhekhan kee aas ||91||
(But please do not touch these eyes; 
I hope to see my Lord.)

kaagaa choo(n)dd na pi(n)jaraa 
  basai ta uddar jaeh ||
(O crow, do not peck at my skeleton; 
if you have landed on it, fly away.)

jit pi(n)jarai meraa sahu vasai 
  maas na tidhoo khaeh ||92||
(Do not eat the flesh from that skeleton, 
within which my Husband Lord abides.)



Shabad (Ang 659 of SGGS) : nainahu neer bahai

(Tears well up in my eyes, 
my body has become weak, and my hair has become milky-white.)

(You are the River, All-knowing and All-seeing.

Outside of You, I would burst and die)

n jaanaa meau na jaanaa jaalee ||
(I do not know of the fisherman, and I do not know of the net.)

(But when the pain comes, then I call upon You.)

too bharapoor jaaniaa mai dhoor ||
(You are present everywhere. I had thought that You were far away.)

jo kachh karee su terai hadhoor ||
(Whatever I do, I do in Your Presence.)

(You see all my actions, and yet I deny them.)

(I have not worked for You, or Your Name.)

jetaa dheh tetaa hau khaau ||
(Whatever You give me, that is what I eat.)

(There is no other door-unto which door should I go?)

(this body and soul are totally Yours.)

(My mind yearns so deeply for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, 
like the thirsty man without water.)

merai man prem lago har teer ||
(My mind is pierced through by the arrow of the Lord's Love.)

hamaree bedhan har prabh jaanai 
  mere man a(n)tar kee peer ||1||
(The Lord God knows my anguish, 
and the pain deep within my mind.)

mere har preetam kee koiee baat 
  sunaavai so bhaiee so meraa beer ||2||
(Whoever tells me the Stories of my Beloved Lord,
is my Sibling of Destiny, and my friend.) 

mil mil sakhee gun kahu mere prabh ke 
  le satigur kee mat dheer ||3||
Come, and join together, O my companions; 
(let's sing the Glorious Praises of my God, and follow the comforting advice of the True Guru..)

jan naanak kee har aas pujaavahu

(Please fulfill the hopes of servant Nanak, O Lord;

Shabad (Ang 31 of SGGS) : gur kai bhaanai jo chalai 
  dhukh na paavai koi ||
(One who walks in harmony with the Guru's Will,
shall not suffer in pain.)


manmukh karam kamaavane
  jiau dhohaagan tan seegaar ||
(The self-willed manmukh performs religious rituals, 
like the unwanted bride decorating her body.)

sejai ka(n)t na aaviee 
  nit nit hoi khuaar ||
(Her Husband Lord does not come to her bed; 
day after day, she grows more and more miserable.)

pir kaa mahal na paaviee 
  naa dheesai ghar baar ||1||
(She does not attain the Mansion of His Presence; 
she does not find the door to His House.)

bhaiee re ik man naam dhiaai ||
(O Siblings of Destiny, meditate on the Naam with one-pointed mind.)

sa(n)taa sa(n)gat mil rahai 
  jap raam naam sukh pai ||1||
(Remain united with the Society of the Saints; 
  chant the Name of the Lord, and find peace.)

gurmukh sadhaa sohaaganee 
  pir raakhiaa ur dhaar ||
(The Gurmukh is the happy and pure soul-bride forever. 
She keeps her Husband Lord enshrined within her heart.)

miThaa boleh niv chaleh 
  sejai ravai bhataar ||
(Her speech is sweet, and her way of life is humble. 
She enjoys the Bed of her Husband Lord.)

sobhaava(n)tee sohaaganee 
  jin gur kaa het apaar ||2||
(The happy and pure soul-bride is noble; 
she has infinite love for the Guru.)

poorai bhaag satagur milai 
  jaa bhaagai kaa udhau hoi ||
(By perfect good fortune, one meets the True Guru, 
when one's destiny is awakened.)

a(n)tarahu dhukh bhram kaTeeaai 
  sukh paraapat hoi ||
(Suffering and doubt are cut out from within, 
and peace is obtained.)

gur kai bhaanai jo chalai 
  dhukh na paavai koi ||3||
(One who walks in harmony with the Guru's Will 
shall not suffer in pain.)

gur ke bhaane vich a(n)mrit hai 
  sahaje paavai koi ||
(The Amrit, the Ambrosial Nectar, is in the Guru's Will. 
With intuitive ease, it is obtained.)

jinaa paraapat tin peeaa 
  haumai vichahu khoi ||
(Those who are destined to have it, drink it in; 
their egotism is eradicated from within.)

naanak gurmukh naam dhiaaieeaai 
  sach milaavaa hoi ||4||
(O Nanak, the Gurmukh meditates on the Naam, 
and is united with the True Lord.)

(Just as Dhroo and Prahlaad meditated on the Lord, 
so should you meditate on the Lord, O my soul.)

dheen dhiaal bharose tere ||
(O Lord, Merciful to the meek, I have placed my faith in You;)

sabh paravaar chaRaiaa beRe ||1||
(along with all my family, I have come aboard Your boat.)

jaa tis bhaavai 
  taa hukam manaavai ||
(When it is pleasing to Him, 
then He inspires us to obey the Hukam of His Command.)

eis beRe kau 
  paar laghaavai ||2||
(He causes this boat to cross over.)

gur parasaadh 
  aaisee budh samaanee ||
(By Guru's Grace, 
such understanding is infused into me;)

chook giee 
  fir aavan jaanee ||3||
(my comings and goings in reincarnation have ended.)

kahu kabeer 
  bhaj saarigapaanee ||
(Says Kabeer, 
meditate, vibrate upon the Lord, the Sustainer of the earth.)

auravaar paar

(In this world, in the world beyond and everywhere, 
He alone is the Giver.)

(From the Guru, I received news of the Lord's arrival. 
My mind and body became ecstatic and blissful, 
hearing of the arrival of the Lord, my Beloved Love, my Lord.)


mere man sev safal har ghaal ||
(O my mind, serve the Lord, and receive the fruits of your rewards.)

le gur pag ren ravaal ||
(Receive the dust of the Guru's feet.)

sabh dhaalidh bha(n)j dhukh dhaal ||
(All poverty will be eliminated, and your pains will disappear.)

har ho ho ho nadhar nihaal ||1||
(The Lord shall bless you with His Glance of Grace, and you shall be enraptured.) 

har kaa girahu har aap savaario
  har ra(n)g ra(n)g mahal bea(n)t laal laal har laal ||
(The Lord Himself embellishes His household. 
The Lord's Mansion of Love is studded with countless jewels, the jewels of the Beloved Lord.)

har aapanee kirapaa karee 
  aap gireh aaio 
  ham har kee gur keeiee hai baseeThee 
  ham har dhekhe bhiee nihaal nihaal nihaal nihaal ||1||
(The Lord Himself has granted His Grace, 
and He has come into my home.
The Guru is my advocate before the Lord. 
Gazing upon the Lord, I have become blissful, blissful, blissful.)

(From the Guru, I received news of the Lord's arrival.

(Think of the Lord in your mind, O wise one.)

muhabate man tan basai 
  sach saeh ba(n)dhee moch ||1||
(Enshrine love for the True Lord in your mind and body; 
He is the Liberator from bondage.)

dheedhane dheedhaar saahib 
  kachh nahee is kaa mol ||
(The value of seeing the Vision of the Lord Master cannot be estimated.)

(Filth is washed away, millions of sins are dispelled, 
and the consciousness becomes immaculate and pure.)



pi(n)gul parabat paar pare 
  khal chatur bakeetaa ||
(The cripple crosses over the mountain, 
the fool becomes a wise man,)

a(n)dhule tirabhavan soojhiaa 
  gur bheT puneetaa ||1||
and the blind man sees the three worlds, 
by meeting with the True Guru and being purified.)

mahimaa saadhoo sa(n)g kee 
  sunahu mere meetaa ||
(This is the Glory of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; 
listen, O my friends.)

mail khoiee koT agh hare 
  niramal bhe cheetaa ||1||
Filth is washed away, millions of sins are dispelled, 
and the consciousness becomes immaculate and pure.

aaisee bhagat govi(n)dh kee 
  keeT hasatee jeetaa ||
(Such is devotional worship of the Lord of the Universe, 
that the ant can overpower the elephant.)

jo jo keeno aapano 
  tis abhai dhaan dheetaa ||2||
(Whoever the Lord makes His own, 
is blessed with the gift of fearlessness.)

si(n)gh bilaiee hoi gio 
  tiran mer dhikheetaa ||
(The lion becomes a cat, 
and the mountain looks like a blade of grass.)

sram karate dham aadd kau 
  te ganee dhaneetaa ||3||
(Those who worked for half a shell, 
will be judged very wealthy.)

kavan vaddaiee keh sakau 
  bea(n)t guneetaa ||
(What glorious greatness of Yours can I describe, 
O Lord of infinite excellences?)

(Come out, O soul-bird, and let the meditative remembrance of the Lord be your wings.)

mil saadhoo saran gahu pooran 
  raam ratan heeare sa(n)g raakh ||1||
(Meet the Holy Saint, take to His Sanctuary, 
and keep the perfect jewel of the Lord enshrined in your heart.)

bhram kee kooiee tirasanaa ras pa(n)kaj 
at teekhayen moh kee faas ||
(Superstition is the well, thirst for pleasure is the mud, 
and emotional attachment is the noose, so tight around your neck.)

kaaTanahaar jagat gur gobidh 
  charan kamal taa ke karahu nivaas ||1||
(The only one who can cut this is the Guru of the World, the Lord of the Universe. 
So let yourself dwell at His Lotus Feet.)

kar kirapaa gobi(n)dh prabh preetam

(Bestow Your Mercy, O Lord of the Universe, O God, My Beloved,

(Bless me with such understanding, O my Lord and Master,

(By Your Grace, emotional attachment and egotism are eradicated, 
and doubt is dispelled.)

anadh roop ravio sabh madhe 
  jat kat pekhau jaiee ||2||
(The Lord, the embodiment of bliss, is pervading and permeating in all; 
wherever I go, there I see Him.)

tum(h) dhiaal kirapaal kirapaa nidh 
  patit paavan gosaiee ||
(You are kind and compassionate, the treasure of mercy, 
the Purifier of sinners, Lord of the world.)

koT sookh aana(n)dh raaj paae 
  mukh te nimakh bulaiee ||3||
(I obtain millions of joys, comforts and kingdoms, 
if You inspire me to chant Your Name with my mouth, even for an instant.)

jaap taap bhagat saa pooree 
  jo prabh kai man bhaiee ||
(That alone is perfect (chanting, meditation, penance, and devotional worship service),
which is pleasing to God's Mind.)

naam japat tirasanaa sabh bujhee 
  hai naanak tirapat aghaiee ||4||
(Chanting the Naam, all thirst and desire is satisfied; 
Nanak is satisfied and fulfilled.)

Shabad (Ang 624 of SGGS) : raam ras peeaa re ||
(I drink in the sublime essence of the Lord.)

jeh ras bisar ge ras aaur ||1||
(With the taste of this essence, I have forgotten all other tastes.)


re man tero koi nahee 
  khi(n)ch lei jin bhaar ||
(O my mind, even if you carry someone's burden, 
they don't belong to you.)

birakh basero pa(n)kh ko 
  taiso ih sa(n)saar ||1||
(This world is like the perch of the bird on the tree.)

raam ras peeaa re ||
(I drink in the sublime essence of the Lord.)

aaur mue kiaa roieeaai 
  jau aapaa thir na rahai ||
(Why should we weep at the death of others,

why should we cry out in grief?)

jeh kee upajee teh rachee 
  peevat maradhan laag ||
(We are re-absorbed into the One from whom we came; 
drink in the Lord's essence, and remain attached to Him.)

keh kabeer chit chetiaa 
  raam simar bairaag ||3||
(Says Kabeer, my consciousness is filled with thoughts of remembrance of the Lord; 
chanting (simran) the Lord's name, I have become detached from the world.)

(O Dear Lord, You are the honor of the dishonored.)

I am a sacrifice to Your almighty creative power.)



giee bahoR ba(n)dhee chhoR 
  nira(n)kaar dhukhadhaaree ||
(The Restorer of what was taken away, the Liberator from captivity; 
the Formless Lord, the Destroyer of pain.)

karam na jaanaa dharam na jaanaa 
  lobhee maiaadhaaree ||
(I do not know about karma and good deeds; I do not know about Dharma and righteous living.
I am so greedy, chasing after Maya (money).)

naam pario bhagat govi(n)dh kaa 
  ieh raakhahu paij tumaaree ||1||
I go by the name of God's devotee; 
please, save this honor of Yours.)

har jeeau nimaaniaa too maan ||
(O Dear Lord, You are the honor of the dishonored.)

but still, he hugs him close in his embrace.)

(Lord, Please forgive my past actions, 
and place me on Your path for the future.)

har a(n)tarajaamee sabh bidh jaanai 
  taa kis peh aakh sunaieeaai ||
(The Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, knows all about my state of mind; 
so who else should I go to and speak to?)

kahanai kathan na bheejai gobi(n)dh 
  har bhaavai paij rakhaieeaai ||
(The Lord, the Lord of the Universe, is not pleased by mere recitation of words; 
if it is pleasing to His Will, He preserves our honor.)

avar oT mai sagalee dhekhee 
  ik teree oT rahaieeaai ||3||
(Lord, I have seen all other shelters, 
but Yours alone remains for me.)

hoi dhiaal kirapaal prabh Thaakur 
  aape sunai bena(n)tee ||
(Becoming kind and compassionate, 
God the Lord and Master Himself listens to my prayer.)

pooraa satagur mel milaavai 
  sabh chookai man kee chi(n)tee ||
(He unites me in Union with the Perfect True Guru, 
and all the cares and anxieties of my mind are dispelled.)

har har naam avakhadh mukh paiaa 
  jan naanak sukh vasa(n)tee ||4||
(The Lord, Har, Har, has placed the medicine of the Naam into my mouth; 
servant Nanak abides in peace.)

(With every breath and morsel of food, 
chant the Name of the Lord, the Cherisher.)

jis no kare raha(n)m 
  tis na visaaradhaa ||
(The Lord does not forget one upon whom,
He has bestowed His Grace.)

aap upaavanahaar 
  aape hee maaradhaa ||
(He Himself is the Creator, 
and He Himself destroys.)

sabh kichh jaanai jaan 
  bujh veechaaradhaa ||
(The Knower knows everything; 
He understands and contemplates.)

anik roop khin maeh 
  kudharat dhaaradhaa ||
(By His creative power, 
He assumes numerous forms in an instant.)

jis no lai sach 
  tiseh udhaaradhaa ||
(One whom the Lord attaches to, 
the Truth is redeemed.)

jis dhai hovai val 
  su kadhe na haaradhaa ||
(One who has God on his side,
he is never conquered.)

sadhaa abhag dheebaan hai 
  hau tis namasakaaradhaa ||4||
(His Court is eternal and imperishable; 
I humbly bow to the Lord)

  satigur pai pai ||
(Forever and ever, I chant Your Name; 
I fall at the feet of the True Guru.)

man tan a(n)tar vas 
  dhookhaa naas hoi ||
(Please, dwell within my mind and body, 
and end my sufferings.)

hath dhei aap rakh 
  viaapai bhau na koi ||
(Please give me Your hand, and save me, 
that fear may not afflict me.)

gun gaavaa dhin rain 
  etai ka(n)m lai ||
(May I sing Your Glorious Praises day and night; 
please commit me to this task.)

sa(n)t janaa kai sa(n)g 
  haumai rog jai ||
(Associating with the humble Saints, 
the disease of egotism is eradicated.)

sarab nira(n)tar khasam 
  eko rav rahiaa ||
(The One Lord and Master is all-pervading, 
permeating everywhere.)

  sacho sach lahiaa ||
(By Guru's Grace, 
I have truly found the Truest of the True.)

(Please bless me with Your Kindness, O Kind Lord,

dharasan dhekh nihaal 
naanak preet eh ||1||
(Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, I am in ecstasy;

Shabad (Ang 244-245 of SGGS) : mil mere preetamaa jeeau 
  tudh bin kharee nimaanee ||
(Meet me, O my Dear Beloved. 
Without You, I am totally dishonored.)

mai nainee needh na aavai jeeau 
  bhaavai a(n)n na paanee ||
(Sleep does not come to my eyes, 
and I have no desire for food or water.)

paanee a(n)n na bhaavai mareeaai haavai 
  bin pir kiau sukh paieeaai ||
(I have no desire for food or water, and I am dying from the pain of separation.
Without my Husband Lord, how can I find peace?)

gur aagai karau bina(n)tee je gur bhaavai 
  jiau milai tivai milaieeaai ||
(I offer my prayers to the Guru; if it pleases the Guru, 
He shall unite me with Himself.)

aape mel le sukhadhaataa 
  aap miliaa ghar aae ||
(The Giver of peace has united me with Himself; 
He Himself has come to my home to meet me.)

naanak kaaman sadhaa suhaagan 
  naa pir marai na jaae ||4||
(O Nanak, the soul-bride is forever the Lord's favorite wife; 
her Husband Lord does not die, and He shall never leave.)

(When You come to mind, I am totally in bliss. One who forgets You might just as well be dead.)

dhiaal hoveh jis uoopar karate 
  so tudh sadhaa dhiaae ||1||
(That being, whom You bless with Your Mercy, O Creator Lord, constantly meditates on You.)

mere saahib too(n) mai maan nimaanee ||
(O my Lord and Master, You are the honor of the dishonored such as me.)

aradhaas karee prabh apane aagai 
  sun sun jeevaa teree baanee ||1||
(I offer my prayer to You, God; 
listening, listening to the Word of Your Bani, I live.)

charan dhooR tere jan kee hovaa 
  tere dharasan kau bal jaiee ||
(May I become the dust of the feet of Your humble servants. I am a sacrifice to the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.)

a(n)mirat bachan ridhai ur dhaaree 
  tau kirapaa te sa(n)g paiee ||2||
(I enshrine Your Ambrosial Word within my heart. By Your Grace, I have found the Company of the Holy.)

a(n)tar kee gat tudh peh saaree 
  tudh jevadd avar na koiee ||
(I place the state of my inner being before You; there is no other as great as You.)

jis no lai laih so laagai 
  bhagat tuhaaraa soiee ||3||
(He alone is attached, whom You attach; he alone is Your devotee.)

dhui kar joR maagau ik dhaanaa 
  saahib tuThai paavaa ||
(With my palms pressed together, I beg for this one gift; O my Lord and Master, if it pleases You, I shall obtain it.)

  aaTh pahar gun gaavaa ||4||
(With each and every breath, Nanak adores You; 
twenty-four hours a day, I sing Your Glorious Praises.)

Shabad : Vadda mera govindh



Shabad (Ang 448 of SGGS) : vaddaa meraa govi(n)dh agam agochar 
  aadh nira(n)jan nira(n)kaar jeeau ||
(My Lord of the Universe is great, unapproachable, unfathomable, primal, immaculate and formless.)

taa kee gat kahee na jaiee amit vaddiaaiee 
  meraa govi(n)dh alakh apaar jeeau ||
(His condition cannot be described; His Glorious Greatness is immeasurable. 
My Lord of the Universe is invisible and infinite.)

govi(n)dh alakh apaar apara(n)par 
  aap aapanaa jaanai ||
(The Lord of the Universe is invisible, infinite and unlimited. 
He Himself knows Himself.)

kiaa ieh ja(n)t vichaare kahe'eeh 
  jo tudh aakh vakhaanai ||
(What should these poor creatures say? 
How can they speak of and describe You?)

jis no nadhar kareh too(n) apanee 
  so gurmukh kare veechaar jeeau ||
(That Gurmukh who is blessed by Your Glance of Grace contemplates You.)

vaddaa meraa govi(n)dh agam agochar 
  aadh nira(n)jan nira(n)kaar jeeau ||1||
(My Lord of the Universe is great, unapproachable, unfathomable, primal, immaculate and formless.)


too(n) aadh purakh apara(n)par karataa teraa paar na paiaa jai jeeau ||
(You, O Lord, O Primal Being, are the Limitless Creator; Your limits cannot be found.)

too(n) ghaT ghaT a(n)tar sarab nira(n)tar sabh meh rahiaa samai jeeau ||
(You are pervading and permeating each and every heart, everywhere, You are contained in all.)

ghaT a(n)tar paarabraham paramesar taa kaa a(n)t na paiaa ||
(Within the heart is the Transcendent, Supreme Lord God, whose limits cannot be found.)

tis roop na rekh adhisaT agochar gurmukh alakh lakhaiaa ||
(He has no form or shape; He is unseen and unknown. The Gurmukh sees the unseen Lord.)

sadhaa ana(n)dh rahai dhin raatee sahaje naam samai jeeau ||
(He remains in continual ecstasy, day and night, and is spontaneously absorbed into the Naam.)

too(n) aadh purakh apara(n)par karataa teraa paar na paiaa jai jeeau ||2||
(You, O Lord, O Primal Being, are the Limitless Creator; Your limits cannot be found.)

too(n) sat paramesar sadhaa abinaasee har har gunee nidhaan jeeau ||
(You are the True, Transcendent Lord, forever imperishable. The Lord, Har, Har, is the treasure of virtue.)

har har prabh eko avar na koiee too(n) aape purakh sujaan jeeau ||
(The Lord God, Har, Har, is the One and only; there is no other at all. You Yourself are the all-knowing Lord.)

purakh sujaan too(n) paradhaan tudh jevadd avar na koiee ||
(You are the all-knowing Lord, the most exalted and auspicious; there is no other as great as You.)

teraa sabadh sabh too(n)hai varateh too(n) aape kareh su hoiee ||
(The Word of Your Shabad is pervading in all; whatever You do, comes to pass.)

har sabh meh raviaa eko soiee gurmukh lakhiaa har naam jeeau ||
(The One Lord God is permeating all; the Gurmukh comes to understand the Lord's Name.)

too(n) sat paramesar sadhaa abinaasee har har gunee nidhaan jeeau ||3||
(You are the True, Transcendent Lord, forever imperishable. The Lord, Har, Har, is the treasure of virtue.)

sabh too(n)hai karataa sabh teree vaddiaaiee jiau bhaavai tivai chalai jeeau ||
(You are the Creator of all, and all greatness is Yours. As it pleases Your Will, so do we act.)

tudh aape bhaavai tivai chalaaveh sabh terai sabadh samai jeeau ||
(As it pleases Your Will, so do we act. All are merged into Your Shabad.)

sabh sabadh samaavai jaa(n) tudh bhaavai terai sabadh vaddiaaiee ||
(When it pleases Your Will, we obtain greatness through Your Shabad.)

gurmukh budh paieeaai aap gavaieeaai sabadhe rahiaa samaiee ||
(The Gurmukh obtains wisdom, and eliminates his self-conceit, and remains absorbed in the Shabad.)

teraa sabadh agochar gurmukh paieeaai naanak naam samai jeeau ||
(The Gurmukh obtains Your incomprehensible Shabad; O Nanak, he remains merged in the Naam.)

sabh too(n)hai karataa sabh teree vaddiaaiee jiau bhaavai tivai chalai jeeau ||4||
(You are the Creator of all, and all greatness is Yours. As it pleases Your Will, so do we act.)
