(Human life is such a precious jewel,

rain gavaiee soi kai 
  dhivas gavaiaa khai ||
(The nights are wasted sleeping, 
and the days are wasted eating.)

heere jaisaa janam hai 
  kauddee badhale jai ||1||
(Human life is such a precious jewel, 
but it is being lost in exchange for a mere shell)

naam na jaaniaa raam kaa ||
(You do not know the Name of the Lord.)

mooRe fir paachhai pachhutaeh re ||1||
(You fool - you shall regret and repent in the end!)

anataa dhan dharanee dhare anat na chaahiaa jai ||
(You bury your temporary wealth in the ground, but how can you love that which is temporary?)

anat kau chaahan jo ge se aae anat gavai ||2||
(Those who have departed, after craving for temporary wealth, have returned home without this temporary wealth.)

aapan leeaa je milai taa sabh ko bhaagaTh hoi ||
(If people could gather it in by their own efforts, then everyone would be so lucky.)

karamaa upar nibaRai je lochai sabh koi ||3||
(According to the karma of past actions, one's destiny unfolds, even though everyone wants to be so lucky.)

naanak karanaa jin keeaa soiee saar karei ||
(O Nanak, the One who created the creation - He alone takes care of it.)

hukam na jaapee khasam kaa 
  kisai vaddaiee dhei ||4||
(The Hukam of our Lord and Master's Command cannot be known; 
He Himself blesses us with greatness.)

jete jatan karat te ddoobe 
  bhav saagar nahee taario re ||
(Those who try to do things by their own wrong efforts are drowned in the terrifying world-ocean;
they cannot cross over.)

karam dharam karate bahu sa(n)jam 
  aha(n)budh man jaario re ||1||
(Those who practice religious rituals and strict self-discipline without concern for humanity 
- their egotistical pride shall consume their minds.)

  gur kaa sabadh na dhaario re ||2||
(Intoxicated with pride, you cheat yourself; 
you have not enshrined the Word of the Guru's Shabad within your mind.)

suaadh lubhat i(n)dhree ras prerio 
  madh ras lait bikaario re ||
(Those who are deluded by sensual pleasures, 
who are tempted by sexual delights and enjoy wine are corrupt.)

karam bhaag sa(n)tan sa(n)gaane 
  kaasaT loh udhaario re ||3||
(But those who, through destiny and good karma, join the Society of the Saints,
float over the ocean, like iron attached to wood.)

dhaavat jon janam bhram thaake 
  ab dhukh kar ham haario re ||
(I have wandered in doubt and confusion, through birth and reincarnation;
now, I am so tired. I am suffering in pain and wasting away.)

keh kabeer gur milat mahaa ras 
  prem bhagat nisataario re ||4||
(Says Kabeer, meeting with the Guru, I have obtained supreme joy; 
my love and devotion have saved me.)

(One who prays for the four cardinal blessings)

saadh janaa kee sevaa laagai ||
(should commit himself to the service of the Saints.)

je ko aapunaa dhookh miTaavai ||
(If you wish to erase your sorrows,)

har har naam ridhai sadh gaavai ||
(sing the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, within your heart.)

je ko apunee sobhaa lorai ||
(If you long for honor for yourself,)

saadhasa(n)g ieh haumai chhorai ||
(then renounce your ego in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.)

(If you fear the cycle of birth and death,)

within it is contained the Ambrosial Water.)

(The Ambrosial Water is filling it, and my job is perfectly complete; all my desires are fulfilled.)

(Congratulations are pouring in from all over the world;

(Qazi and maulvis got together and began discussing religion.)

vaddaa saa(n)g varataiaa lakh na sakai kudharat koiee |
(A great fantasy has been created and no one could understood its mystery.)

puchhan fol kitaab no hi(n)dhoo vaddaa k musalamaanoiee ?
(They asked Baba Nanak to open and search in his book whether Hindu is great or the Muslim.)

baabaa aakhe haajeeaa subh amalaa baajhahu dhono roiee |
(Baba replied to the pilgrim hajis, that, without good deeds both will have to weep and wail.)

hi(n)dhoo musalamaan dhui dharageh a(n)dhar lahan na ddoiee |
(Only by being a Hindu or a Muslim, one can not get accepted in the court of the Almighty Lord. 
"You will have to do good deeds everyday, in order to be accepted by the Lord")

kachaa ra(n)g kusu(n)bh dhaa paanee dhotai thir na rahoiee |
(As the colour of safflower is impermanent and is washed away in water, likewise the colours of religiosity are also temporary.)

{(Followers of both the religions) In their expositions, denounce Ram and Rahim.}

(The whole world is following the ways of Satan.)

(Branded with a thousand marks of disgrace, Indra cried in shame.)

paras raam rovai ghar aaiaa ||
Paras Raam returned home crying.)

ajai su rovai bheekhiaa khai ||
(Ajai cried and wept, when he was made to eat the manure he had given, pretending it was charity.)

aaisee dharageh milai sajai ||
(Such is the punishment received in the Court of the Lord.)

rovai raam nikaalaa bhiaa ||
(Rama wept when he was sent into exile,)

seetaa lakhaman vichhuR giaa ||
(and separated from Sita and Lakhshman.)

rovai dhahasir la(n)k gavai || jin seetaa aadhee ddauroo vai ||
(The ten-headed Raawan, who stole away Sita with the beat of his tambourine, wept when he lost Sri Lanka.)

roveh paa(n)ddav bhe majoor || jin kai suaamee rahat hadhoor ||
(The Paandavas once lived in the Presence of the Lord; they were made slaves, and wept.)

rovai janamejaa khui giaa ||
(Janmayjaa wept, that he had lost his way.)

ekee kaaran paapee bhiaa ||
(One mistake, and he became a sinner.)

roveh sekh masaik peer ||
(The Shaykhs, Pirs and spiritual teachers weep;)

a(n)t kaal mat laagai bheeR ||
(at the very last instant, they suffer in agony.)

roveh raaje ka(n)n paRai ||
(The kings weep - their ears are cut;)

ghar ghar maageh bheekhiaa jai ||
(they go begging from house to house.)

roveh kirapan sa(n)cheh dhan jai ||
(The miser weeps; he has to leave behind the wealth he has gathered.)

pa(n)ddit roveh giaan gavai ||
(The Pandit, the religious scholar, weeps when his learning is gone.)

baalee rovai naeh bhataar ||
(The young woman weeps because she has no husband.)

(Who is our mother, and who is our father? 
Where did we come from?)

agan bi(n)b jal bheetar nipaje 
  kaahe ka(n)m upaae ||1||
(We are formed from the fire of the womb within, and the bubble of water of the sperm. 
For what purpose are we created?)

mere saahibaa kaun jaanai gun tere ||
O my Master, who can know Your Glorious Virtues?

kahe na jaanee aaugan mere ||1||
My own demerits cannot be counted. 

kete rukh birakh ham cheene kete pasoo upaae ||
(I took the form of so many plants and trees, and so many animals.)

kete naag kulee meh aae kete pa(n)kh uddaae ||2||
(Many times I entered the families of snakes and flying birds.)

haT paTan bij ma(n)dhar bha(n)nai kar choree ghar aavai ||
(I broke into the shops of the city and well-guarded palaces; stealing from them, I snuck home again.)

agahu dhekhai pichhahu dhekhai tujh te kahaa chhapaavai ||3||
(I looked in front of me, and I looked behind me, but where could I hide from You?)

taT teerath ham nav kha(n)dd dhekhe haT paTan baajaaraa ||
(I saw the banks of sacred rivers, the nine continents, the shops and bazaars of the cities.)

lai kai takaRee tolan laagaa ghaT hee meh vanajaaraa ||4||
(Taking the scale, the merchant begins to weigh his actions within his own heart.)

jetaa samu(n)dh saagar neer bhariaa tete aaugan hamaare ||
(As the seas and the oceans are overflowing with water, so vast are my own sins.)

dhiaa karahu kichh mihar upaavahu ddubadhe pathar taare ||5||
(Please, shower me with Your Mercy, and take pity upon me. I am a sinking stone - please carry me across!)

(The Lord Himself forgives him, and blesses him with glorious greatness.)

tis te uoopar naahee koi ||
(There is none higher than Him.)

kaun ddarai ddar kis kaa hoi ||
(Why should he be afraid? What should he ever fear?)

gurmatee saa(n)t vasai sareer ||
(Through the Guru's Teachings, peace and tranquility abide within the body.)

sabadh cheeni(h) fir lagai na peer ||
(Remember the Word of the Shabad, and you shall never suffer pain.)

aavai na jai naa dhukh paae ||
(You shall not have to come or go, or suffer in sorrow.)

naame raate sahaj samaae ||
(Imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, you shall merge in celestial peace.)

naanak gurmukh vekhai hadhoor ||
(O Nanak, the Gurmukh beholds Him ever-present, close at hand.)

(God is Inaccessible, Incomprehensible and Imperishable; 
He is known through the Perfect Guru)

(My doubt and fear have been taken away, and I have been made pure, 
since my ego was conquered.)

janam maran ko chooko sahasaa 
  saadhasa(n)gat dharasaaree ||3||
(My fear of birth and death has been abolished, 
beholding Your Blessed Vision in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.)

  baar jaau lakh bareeaa ||
(I wash the Guru's Feet and serve Him; 
I am a sacrifice to Him, 100,000 times.)

(The True Guru is the Transcendent Lord, the Supreme Lord God;

  tere dharasan kau balihaaraa ||1||
(Your servant begs for the dust of Your feet. 
I am a sacrifice to the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.)

(That place is heaven, where the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung. 
You Yourself instill faith into us.)

simar simar simar naam jeevaa

(Meditating, meditating, meditating in remembrance on the Naam, 
I live; my mind and body are enraptured.)

(The hot winds (the summer dry winds) do not even touch or burn,
to the one who is under the Protection of the Supreme Lord God.)

chaugiradh hamaarai raam kaar 
  dhukh lagai na bhaiee ||1||
(On all four sides I am surrounded by the Circle of Lord's Protection; 
pain or suffering does not afflict me, O Siblings of Destiny.)

satigur pooraa bheTiaa 
  jin banat banaiee ||
(I have met the Perfect True Guru, 
who has done this deed, to show me the path to salvation.)

raam naam aaukhadh dheeaa 
  ekaa liv laiee ||1||
(He has given me the medicine of the Lord's Name, 
and I enshrine love for the One Lord.)

raakh le'ee tin rakhanahaar 
  sabh biaadh miTaiee ||
(The Savior Lord has saved me, 
and eradicated all my sickness and pain.)

(Without You, who would cherish and love me?)



keetaa loReh so prabh hoi ||
(Whatever God wills, that alone happens.)

tujh bin dhoojaa naahee koi ||
(Without You, there is no other at all)

jo jan seve tis pooran kaaj ||
The humble being serves Him, and so all his works are perfectly successful.

dhaas apune kee raakhahu laaj ||1||
(O Lord, please preserve the honor of Your humble servant.)

teree saran pooran dhiaalaa ||
(I seek Your Sanctuary, O Perfect, Merciful Lord.)

tujh bin kavan kare pratipaalaa ||1||
(Without You, who would cherish and love me?)

jal thal maheeal rahiaa bharapoor ||
(He is permeating and pervading the water, the land and the sky.)

nikaT vasai naahee prabh dhoor ||
(God dwells near at hand; He is not far away.)

(By trying to please other people, nothing is accomplished.)

saach lagai taa haumai jaieeaai ||2||
(When someone is attached to the True Lord, his ego is taken away.)

jis no lai le so laagai ||
(He alone is attached, whom the Lord Himself attaches.)

(The jewel of spiritual wisdom is awakened deep within.)

dhuramat jai param padh paae ||
(Evil-mindedness is eradicated, and the supreme status is attained.)

(Pressing my palms together, I offer my prayer;)

(Grant Your Mercy, Lord, and bless me with devotion.)

  jis kaa sabhas vesaahu |
(Place the hopes of your mind in the One, 
in whom all have faith)

sabh siaanapaa chhadd kai 
  gur kee charanee paahu ||1||
(Give up all your clever tricks, 
and grasp the Feet of the Guru.)

mann mere 
  sukh sahaj setee jap naau |
(O my mind, 
chant the Name with intuitive peace and poise.)

aaTh pahar prabh dhiaai too(n) 
  gun goi(n)dh nit gaau ||1||
(Twenty-four hours a day, meditate on God. 
Constantly sing the Glories of the Lord of the Universe.)

tis kee saranee par manaa 
  jis jevadd avar na koi |
(Seek His Shelter, O my mind; 
there is no other as Great as He.)

jis simarat sukh hoi ghanaa 
  dhukh dharadh na moole hoi |
(Remembering Him in meditation, a profound peace is obtained. 
Pain and suffering will not touch you at all)

sadhaa sadhaa kar chaakaree 
  prabh saahib sachaa soi ||2||
(Forever and ever, work for God; 
He is our True Lord and Master.)

saadhasa(n)gat hoi niramalaa 
  kaTeeaai jam kee faas |
(In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall become absolutely pure,
and the noose of death shall be cut away.)

sukhadhaataa bhai bha(n)jano 
  tis aagai kar aradhaas |
(The Lord is the Giver of Peace, the Destroyer of fear;
So offer your prayers unto Him,)

mihar kare jis miharavaan 
  taa(n) kaaraj aavai raas ||3||
(Showing His Mercy, 
the Merciful Master shall resolve your affairs.)

bahuto bahut vakhaaneeaai 
  uoocho uoochaa thaau |
(The Lord is said to be the Greatest of the Great; 
His Kingdom is the Highest of the High.)

varanaa chihanaa baaharaa
  keemat keh na sakaau |
(He has no color or mark; 
His Value cannot be estimated.)

naanak kau prabh miaa kar 
 sach dhevahu apunaa naau ||4||
(Lord, please show Mercy to Nanak;

(If the True Guru, the Giver of peace, shows His kindness,

ham a(n)dhule a(n)dh bikhai bikh raate 
  kiau chaaleh gur chaalee |
(I am blind, totally blind, entangled in corruption and poison. 
How can I walk on the Guru's Path?)

satagur dhiaa kare sukhadhaataa 
  ham laavai aapan paalee ||
(If the True Guru, the Giver of peace, shows His kindness, 
He attaches us to the hem of His robe.)

gursikh meet chalahu gur chaalee |
(O Sikhs of the Guru, O friends, walk on the Guru's Path.)

jo gur kahai soiee bhal maanahu 
  har har kathaa niraalee ||
(Whatever the Guru says, accept that as good; 
the sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, is unique and wonderful.)

har ke sa(n)t sunahu jan bhaiee 
  gur sevih beg begaalee |
(O Saints of the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny, 
listen: serve the Guru, quickly now!)

satagur sev kharach har baadhahu 
  mat jaanahu aaj k kaal(h)ee ||
(Let your service to the True Guru be your supplies on the Lord's Path; 
pack them up, and don't think of today or tomorrow.)

har ke sa(n)t japahu har japanaa 
  har sa(n)t chalai har naalee |
(O Saints of the Lord, chant the chant of the Lord's Name; 
the Lord's Saints walk with the Lord.)

jin har japiaa se har hoe 
  har miliaa kel kelaalee ||
(Those who meditate on the Lord, become the Lord; 
the playful, wondrous Lord meets them.)

har har japan jap loch luochaanee 
  har kirapaa kar banavaalee |
(To chant the chant of the Lord's Name, Har, Har, is the longing I long for;
have Mercy upon me, O Lord of the world-forest.)

jan naanak sa(n)gat saadh har melahu 
  ham saadh janaa pag raalee ||
(O Lord, unite servant Nanak with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy;
make me the dust of the feet of the Holy.)

(That land, becomes green, fertile and bountiful;
where my True Guru comes and sits.)

se ja(n)t bhe hareeaavale 
  jinee meraa satigur dhekhiaa jai ||
(Those beings who go and behold my True Guru are rejuvenated.)

dhan dha(n)n pitaa dhan dha(n)n kul 
  dhan dhanu su jananee jin guroo janiaa mai ||
(Blessed, blessed is the father; blessed, blessed is the family; 
blessed, blessed is the mother, who gave birth to the Guru.)

dhan dha(n)n guroo jin naam araadhiaa 
  aap tariaa jinee ddiThaa tinaa le chhaddai ||
(Blessed, blessed is the Guru, who worships and adores the Naam; 
He saves Himself, and emancipates those who see Him)

har satigur melahu dhiaa kar 
  jan naanak dhovai pai ||
(O Lord, be kind, and unite me with the True Guru, 
that servant Nanak may wash His feet.)

(The Great Giver listened to my prayer, and the world has been cooled and comforted.)

levahu ka(n)Th lagai apadhaa sabh har ||
(Take me into Your Embrace, and take away all my pain.)

naanak naam dhiaai prabh kaa safal ghar ||1||
(Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the House of God is fruitful and prosperous.)

(O Mohan, your temple is so lofty, 
and your mansion is unsurpassed.)

mohan tere sohan dhuaar jeeau 
  sa(n)t dharam saalaa ||
(O Mohan, your gates are so beautiful. 
They are the worship-houses of the Saints.)

dharam saal apaar dhaiaar Thaakur 
  sadhaa keeratan gaavahe ||
(In these incomparable worship-houses, 
they continually sing Kirtan, the Praises of their Lord and Master.)

jeh saadh sa(n)t ikatr hoveh 
  tahaa tujheh dhiaavahe ||
(Where the Saints and the Holy gather together, 
there they meditate on you.)

kar dhiaa miaa dhiaal suaamee 
  hoh dheen kirapaaraa ||
(Be Kind and Compassionate, O Merciful Lord; 
be Merciful to the meek.)

binava(n)t naanak dharas piaase 
  mil dharasan sukh saaraa ||
(Prays Nanak, (O Lord) I thirst for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan; 
receiving Your Darshan, I am totally at peace.)

(The Fascinating Lord has fascinated my mind; 
contemplating the Word of the Shabad, I have come to understand.)

pooran param jot paramesar 
  preetam praan hamaare |
(He is the Perfect, Supreme Light, the Supreme Lord God, 
my Beloved, my Breath of Life.)

apune Thaakur kee hau cheree |
(I am the hand-maiden of my Lord and Master.)

charan gahe jagajeevan prabh ke 
  haumai maar niberee |
(I have grasped the Feet of God, the Life of the world. 
He has killed and eradicated my egotism.)

manmukh heen hochhee mat jhooThee 
  man tan peer sareere |
(The worthless self-willed manmukh (a self centered person), with false and shallow understanding 
- his mind and body are held in a grip of pain.)

jab kee raam ra(n)geelai raatee 
  raam japat man dheere ||
(Since I came to be imbued with the Love of my Beautiful Lord, 
I meditate on the Lord, and my mind is encouraged.)

haumai chhodd bhiee bairaagan 
  tab saachee surat samaanee |
(Abandoning egotism, I have become detached. 
And now, I absorb true intuitive understanding.)

akul nira(n)jan siau man maaniaa 
  bisaree laaj luokaanee ||
(The mind is pleased and appeased by the Pure, Immaculate Lord; 
the opinions of other people are irrelevant.)

bhoor bhavikh naahee tum jaise 
  mere preetam praan adhaaraa |
(There is no other like You, in the past or in the future, 
O my Beloved, my Breath of Life, my Support.)

har kai naam ratee sohaagan 
  naanak raam bhataaraa ||
(The soul-bride is imbued with the Name of the Lord; 
O Nanak, the Lord is her Husband.)

Jis ke sirr upar tu swami



Shabad (Ang 749-750 of SGGS) : mere ram rai 
  tu santa ka sant tere |
(O my Sovereign Lord, 
You belong to the Saints, and the Saints belong to You.)

tere sevak ko bhau kich nahi 
  jam nahi ave nerhe ||
(Your servant is not afraid of anything; 
the Messenger of Death cannot even approach him.) 

jis ke sir upar tu suami 
  so dukh kaisa pavai |
(Lord, When You stand over our heads (when we are in your sanctuary), 
O Lord and Master, how can we suffer in pain?)

bol na jane maeya mad mata 
  marna chitt na aavai ||
(The mortal being does not know how to chant Your Name - he is intoxicated with the wine of Maya (the illusions of this world), 
and the thought of death does not even enter his mind.)

jo terai rang raate suami 
  tinh ka janam maran dukh nasa |
(Those who are attuned to Your Love, O my Lord and Master, 
they are released from the pains of birth and death.)

teri bakhas na metai koi 
  satgur ka dilasa ||
(No one can erase Your Blessings; 
the True Guru has given me this assurance.)

naam dhiain sukh fal payan 
  aath pahar aradheh |
(Those who meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, obtain the fruits of peace. 
Twenty-four hours a day, they worship and adore You.)

teri saran terai bharvasai 
  panch dusat lai sadheh ||
(In Your Sanctuary, with Your Support, 
they subdue the five villains. {the five vices - kama (lust), krodh (wrath), lobh (greed), moh (attachment) and ahankar (ego or excessive pride)} )

gian dhian kichh karam na jana 
  saar na jana teri | 
(I know nothing about wisdom, meditation and good deeds; 
I know nothing about Your excellence.)

sabh te vada satgur nanak 
  jin kal rakhi meri ||
(Guru Nanak is the greatest of all; 
He saved my honor in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga.)

(Some call Him, 'Raam, Raam', and some call Him, 'Khudaa-i'.)

koiee sevai gusieeaa koiee alaeh ||
(Some serve Him as 'Gusain', others as 'Allaah'.)

kaaran karan kareem |
(He is the Cause of causes, the Generous Lord.)

kirapaa dhaar raheem ||
(He showers His Grace and Mercy upon us.)

koiee naavai teerath koiee haj jai |
(Some bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, and some make the pilgrimage to Mecca.)

koiee karai poojaa koiee sir nivai ||
(Some perform devotional worship services, and some bow their heads in prayer.)

koiee paRai bedh koiee kateb |
(Some read the Vedas, and some the Koran.)

koiee oddai neel koiee supedh ||
(Some wear blue robes, and some wear white.)

koiee kahai turak koiee kahai hi(n)dhoo |
(Some call themselves Muslim, and some call themselves Hindu.)

koiee baachhai bhisat koiee suragi(n)dhoo ||
(Some yearn for paradise, and others long for heaven.)

kahu naanak jin hukam pachhaataa |
(Says Nanak, one who realizes the Hukam of God's Will,)

prabh saahib kaa tin bhedh jaataa ||
(knows the secrets of his Lord and Master.)

(Your affairs shall be perfectly resolved; 
sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, O my mind.)

birathaa bharavaasaa lok |
(Reliance on mortal man is useless.)

Thaakur prabh teree Tek ||
(O God, my Lord and Master, You are my only Support.)

avar chhooTee sabh aas |
(I have discarded all other hopes.)

achi(n)t Thaakur bheTe gunataas ||
(I have met with my carefree Lord and Master, the treasure of virtue.)

tum hee kaaran karan |
(You are the Doer, the Cause of causes.)

charan kamal har saran ||
(Your lotus feet, Lord, are my Sanctuary.)

man tan har ohee dhiaaiaa |
(I meditate on the Lord in my mind and body.)

aana(n)dh har roop dhikhaiaa ||
(The blissful Lord has revealed His form to me.)

tis hee kee oT sadheev |
(I seek His eternal support;)

jaa ke keene hai jeev ||
(He is the Creator of all beings.)

simarat har karat nidhaan |
(Remembering the Lord in meditation, the treasure is obtained.)

raakhanahaar nidhaan ||
(At the very last instant, He shall be your Savior.)

sarab kee ren hoveejai |
(Be the dust of all men's feet.)

aap miTai mileejai ||
(Eradicate self-conceit, and merge in the Lord.)

anadhin dhiaaieeaai naam |
(Night and day, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.)

safal naanak ih kaam ||
(O Nanak, this is the most rewarding activity.)

(I have totally forgotten my jealousy of others,)

jab te saadhasa(n)gat moh paiee ||
(since I found the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. )

naa ko bairee nahee bigaanaa 
  sagal sa(n)g ham kau ban aaiee ||
(No one is my enemy, and no one is a stranger. 
I get along with everyone.)

jo prabh keeno so bhal maanio 
  eh sumat saadhoo te paiee ||
(Whatever God does, I accept that as good. 
This is the sublime wisdom I have obtained from the Holy.)

sabh meh rav rahiaa prabh ekai 
  pekh pekh naanak bigasaiee ||
(The One God is pervading in all. 
Gazing upon Him, beholding Him, Nanak blossoms forth in happiness.)

(He Himself preserves His servants; 
He causes them to chant His Name.)

tahaa tahaa uTh dhaavai ||
(Wherever the business and affairs of His servants are, 
there the Lord hurries to be.)

sevak kau nikaTee hoi dhikhaavai |
(The Lord appears near at hand to His servant.)

jo jo kahai Thaakur peh sevak tatakaal hoi aavai ||
(Whatever the servant asks of his Lord and Master, immediately comes to pass.)

tis sevak kai hau balihaaree jo apane prabh bhaavai |
(I am a sacrifice to that servant, who is pleasing to his God.)

tis kee soi sunee man hariaa tis naanak parasan aavai ||
(Hearing of his glory, the mind is rejuvenated; Nanak comes to touch his feet.)

(He knows everything, without being told;

baabeehaa sagalee dharatee je fireh 
uoodd chaReh aakaas ||
(The rainbird wanders all over the earth, 
soaring high through the skies.)

satigur miliaai jal paieeaai 
chookai bhookh piaas ||
(But it obtains the drop of water, only when it meets the True Guru, 
and then, its hunger and thirst are relieved.)

jeeau pi(n)dd sabh tis kaa 
sabh kichh tis kai paas ||
(Soul and body and all belong to Him; 
everything is His.)

naanak ghaT ghaT eko varatadhaa 
sabadh kare paragaas ||
(O Nanak, the One Lord is prevading and permeating each and every heart; 
the Word of the Shabad brings illumination.)

(The Transcendent Lord has struck down the wicked and the evil.)

jan kee paij rakhee karataare ||
(The Creator has preserved the honor of His servant.)

baadhisaeh saeh sabh vas kar dheene |
(The kings and emperors are all under his power;)

a(n)mirat naam mahaa ras peene ||
(he drinks deeply of the most sublime essence of the Ambrosial Naam.)

nirabhau hoi bhajahu bhagavaan |
(Meditate fearlessly on the Lord God.)

saadhasa(n)gat mil keeno dhaan ||
(Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, this gift is given.)

saran pare prabh a(n)tarajaamee |
(Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of God, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts;)

naanak oT pakaree prabh suaamee ||
(he grasps the Support of God, his Lord and Master.)

(How rare is that person who drinks in the Ambrosial Essence of the Lord's Kirtan.)

vajahu naanak milai ek naam ridh jap jap jeevai ||
(Nanak has obtained the commodity of the One Name; 
he lives by chanting and meditating on it within his heart.)

jaa kaa Thaakur tuhee prabh taa ke vaddabhaagaa |
(One who has You as His Master, O God, is blessed with great destiny.)

oh suhelaa sadh sukhee sabh bhram bhau bhaagaa ||
(He is happy, and forever at peace; his doubts and fears are all dispelled.)

ham chaakar gobi(n)dh ke Thaakur meraa bhaaraa |
(I am the slave of the Lord of the Universe; my Master is the greatest of all.)

karan karaavan sagal bidh so satiguroo hamaaraa ||
(He is the Creator, the Cause of causes; He is my True Guru.)

dhoojaa naahee aaur ko taa kaa bhau kareeaai |
(There is no other whom I should fear.)

gur sevaa mahal paieeaai jag dhutar tareeaai ||
(Serving the Guru, the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is obtained, and the impassable world-ocean is crossed over.)

dhirasaT teree sukh paieeaai man maeh nidhaanaa |
(By Your Glance of Grace, peace is obtained, and the treasure fills the mind.)

jaa kau tum kirapaal bhe sevak se paravaanaa ||
(That servant, unto whom You bestow Your Mercy, is approved and accepted.)
