Shabad : So dar keha so ghar keha
Jit beh sarab samalay
(How wonderful Thy gate; how wonderful Thy mansion,
From whence Thou watchest Thy Great Creation,)

Vajay Naad anek asunkha
Kaytay vavoan-haray
(The sound-current of the Naad vibrates there,
and countless musicians play on all sorts of instruments there.
Countless the measures, countless the singers, that sing thy praises.)

Gaaveh tuh no pauan pani baisantar
Gaaveh Raja Dharam duwarway
(The Elements -- Wind, Water and Fire -- sing of Thee,
the Righteous Judge of Dharma sings at your door.)

Gaveh Chit Gupt likh jaaney
  Likh likh Dharam vicharay
(Chitr and Gupt, the angels of the conscious and the subconscious
who record actions, and the Righteous Judge of Dharma
who judges this record sing.)

Gaaveh Isser Barma Devi
  Sohan sada sawaray
Gaveh Ind Indasan baethay
  Devtian dar naley
(Shiva, Brahma, and the Goddess of Beauty, ever adorned, sing.
Indra, seated upon his throne, sings with the deities at Your door.)

Gaaveh Sidh samadhi under
Gaavan sadh vicharay
(To Thee sing the Siddhas in their meditation, and the Sadhus
in their contemplation.


Gaavan jati sati santokhi
Gaaveh veer kararay
(To Thee sing the ascetics, the righteous, the contented; and the heroes no
less.)

Gaavan pandat parhan rakhisar
Jug jug Veda naaley
(To Thee sing the learned pundits and the rishis from age to age reciting
from the Holy Vedas.)

Gaavan mohniya man-mohan
Surga mach pyalay
(The mohinis, the enchanting heavenly beauties
who entice hearts in this world, in paradise,
and in the underworld of the subconscious sing.)

Gaavan ratan upaye tayray
Ath-sath teerath naalay
(To Thee sing thy jewels (saints) and the sixty-eight places of pilgrimage.)

Gaaveh jodh mahabal soora
Gaaveh khani charay
(To Thee sing the mighty warriors, the heroes of great prowess, and all
living creatures.

Gaaveh khand-mandal var-bhanda
Kar Kar rakhay dharay
(To Thee sing the earthly regions, the heavens and the universes created and
supported by Thee.)

Seyi Tudh no gaaveh jo tudh bhavan
Rattay tayray bhagat rasaley
(Those that please Thee also sing Thy praises and are saturated with Thy
love and devotion,)

Hoar taytay gaavan
Se maen chit na aavan
(And there are countless more that sing of Thee, whom one cannot even
remember,)

Nanak kiya vicharay
(All lie beyond the ken of Nanak, 

Soyi soyi sada sach Sahib
(He is and is alone the ever-existent Lord.)

Saacha saachi nayee
(He is the Truth and true is His Holy Naam,)

Hai bhi ho-si jay na ja-si
(He is, and shall exist forevermore,)

Rachna jin rachayee
(He who created all Creations shall never depart though worlds be
destroyed.)

Rangi rangi bhati kar kar
Jinsi maya jin upayee
(He who made Nature with its many colors and many forms, looks after His
own handiwork, as it behooves His own
Greatness.)

Kar kar vekhae keeta aapna
Jiv tis di vadiyayee
(He is the Supreme Master and does what He lists,)

Jo tis bhavae so yee karsi
Hukam na karna jayee
(He is the King of Kings, the Almighty Lord,)

So Pat-Sah Saaha Pat-Sahib
Nanak rahan rajayee
(And ours, O Nanak, is only to abide His Will)

Shabad : Sabhe ghat Raam bole



Shabad (Ang 988 of SGGS) : sabhai ghaT raam bolai raamaa bolai ||
(Within all hearts, the Lord speaks, the Lord speaks.)

raam binaa ko bolai re ||1||
(Who else speaks, other than the Lord?)

ekal maaTee ku(n)jar cheeTee 
  bhaajan hai(n) bahu naanaa re ||
(Out of the same clay, the elephant, the ant, 
and the many sorts of species are formed.)

asathaavar ja(n)gam keeT pata(n)gam 
  ghaT ghaT raam samaanaa re ||1||
(In stationary life forms, moving beings, worms, moths 
and within each and every heart, the Lord is contained.)

ekal chi(n)taa raakh ana(n)taa 
  aaur tajahu sabh aasaa re ||
(Remember the One, Infinite Lord; 
abandon all other hopes.)

pranavai naamaa bhe nihakaamaa 
  ko Thaakur ko dhaasaa re ||2||
(Naam Dayv prays, I have become dispassionate and detached; 
who is the Lord and Master, and who is the servant?)

Shabad (Ang 1019 of SGGS) : birakhai heTh 
  sabh ja(n)t ikaThe ||
(Beneath the tree, 
all beings have gathered.)

eik tate 
  ik bolan miThe ||
(Some are hot-headed, 
and some speak very sweetly.)

asat udhot bhiaa uTh chale 
  jiau jiau aaudh vihaaneeaa ||1||
(Sunset has come, and they rise up and depart; 
their days have run their course and expired.)

paap karedhaR sarapar muThe ||
(Those who committed sins are sure to be ruined.)

ajaraieel faRe faR kuThe ||
(Azraa-eel, the Angel of Death, seizes and tortures them.)

dhojak paae sirajanahaarai 
  lekhaa ma(n)gai baaneeaa ||2||
(They are consigned to hell by the Creator Lord, 
and the Accountant calls them to give their account.)

sa(n)g na koiee bhieeaa bebaa ||
(No brothers or sisters can go with them.)

maal joban dhan chhodd van(j)esaa ||
(Leaving behind their property, youth and wealth, they march off.)

karan kareem na jaato karataa 
  til peeRe jiau ghaaneeaa ||3||
(They do not know the kind and compassionate Lord; 
they shall be crushed like sesame seeds in the oil-press.)

khus khus laidhaa vasat paraiee ||
(You happily, cheerfully steal the possessions of others,)

vekhai sune terai naal khudhaiee ||
(but the Lord God is with you, watching and listening.)

dhuneeaa lab piaa khaat a(n)dhar 
  agalee gal na jaaneeaa ||4||
(Through worldly greed, you have fallen into the pit; 
you know nothing of the future.)

jam jam marai marai fir ja(n)mai ||
(You shall be born and born again, and die and die again, 
only to be reincarnated again.)

bahut sajai piaa dhes la(n)mai ||
(You shall suffer terrible punishment, on your way to the land beyond.)

jin keetaa tisai na jaanee a(n)dhaa 
taa dhukh sahai paraaneeaa ||5||
(The mortal does not know the One who created him; 
he is blind, and so he shall suffer.)

khaalak thaavahu bhulaa muThaa ||
(Forgetting the Creator Lord, he is ruined.)

dhuneeaa khel buraa ruTh tuThaa ||
(The drama of the world is bad; 
it brings sadness and then happiness.)

sidhak sabooree sa(n)t na milio 
  vatai aapan bhaaneeaa ||6||
(One who does not meet the Saint does not have faith or contentment; 
he wanders just as he pleases.)

maulaa khel kare sabh aape || 
  ik kadde ik lahar viaape ||
(The Lord Himself stages all this drama. 
Some, he lifts up, and some he throws into the waves.)

jiau nachaae tiau tiau nachan 
  sir sir kirat vihaaneeaa ||7||
(As He makes them dance, so do they dance. 
Everyone lives their lives according to their past actions.)

mihar kare taa khasam dhiaaiee ||
(When the Lord and Master grants His Grace, then we meditate on Him.)

sa(n)taa sa(n)gat narak na paiee ||
(In the Society of the Saints, one is not consigned to hell.)

a(n)mirat naam dhaan naanak kau 
  gunn geetaa nit vakhaaneeaa ||8||
(Please bless Nanak with the gift of the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord; 
he continually sings the songs of Your Glories)

Shabad (Ang 156 of SGGS) : mere saahibaa kaun jaanai gun tere ||
(O my Master, who can know Your Glorious Virtues?)

kahe na jaanee aaugan mere ||1||
(My own demerits cannot be counted.)



kat kee maiee baap kat keraa 
  kidhoo thaavahu ham aae ||
(Who is our mother, and who is our father? 
Where did we come from?)

agan bi(n)b jal bheetar nipaje 
  kaahe ka(n)m upaae ||1||
(We are formed from the fire of the womb within, and the bubble of water of the sperm. 
For what purpose are we created? )

mere saahibaa kaun jaanai gun tere ||
(O my Master, who can know Your Glorious Virtues?)

kahe na jaanee aaugan mere ||1||
(My own demerits cannot be counted.)

kete rukh birakh ham cheene 
  kete pasoo upaae ||
(I took the form of so many plants and trees, 
and so many animals.)

kete naag kulee meh aae 
  kete pa(n)kh uddaae ||2||
(Many times I entered the families of snakes,
and flying birds.)

haT paTan bij ma(n)dhar bha(n)nai 
  kar choree ghar aavai ||
(I broke into the shops of the city and well-guarded palaces; 
stealing from them, I snuck home again.)

agahu dhekhai pichhahu dhekhai 
  tujh te kahaa chhapaavai ||3||
(I looked in front of me, and I looked behind me, 
but where could I hide from You?)

taT teerath ham nav kha(n)dd dhekhe 
  haT paTan baajaaraa ||
(I saw the banks of sacred rivers, the nine continents, 
the shops and bazaars of the cities.)

lai kai takaRee tolan laagaa 
  ghaT hee meh vanajaaraa ||4||
(Taking the scale, 
the merchant begins to weigh his actions within his own heart.)

jetaa samu(n)dh saagar neer bhariaa 
  tete aaugan hamaare ||
(As the seas and the oceans are overflowing with water, 
so vast are my own sins.)

dhiaa karahu kichh mihar upaavahu 
  ddubadhe pathar taare ||5||
(Please, shower me with Your Mercy, and take pity upon me. 
I am a sinking stone - please carry me across!)

jeeaRaa agan baraabar tapai 
  bheetar vagai kaatee ||
(My soul is burning like fire, 
and the knife is cutting deep.)

pranavat naanak hukam pachhaanai 
  sukh hovai dhin raatee ||6||
(Prays Nanak, recognizing the Lord's Command, 
I am at peace, day and night.)

Shabad (Ang 1382 of SGGS) : e dhui nainaa mat chhuhau 
  pir dhekhan kee aas ||
(But please do not touch these eyes; 
I hope to see my Lord.)


kaagaa kara(n)g dda(n)ddoliaa 
  sagalaa khaiaa maas ||
(The crows have searched my skeleton, 
and eaten all my flesh.)

e dhui nainaa mat chhuhau 
  pir dhekhan kee aas ||91||
(But please do not touch these eyes; 
I hope to see my Lord.)

kaagaa choo(n)dd na pi(n)jaraa 
  basai ta uddar jaeh ||
(O crow, do not peck at my skeleton; 
if you have landed on it, fly away.)

jit pi(n)jarai meraa sahu vasai 
  maas na tidhoo khaeh ||92||
(Do not eat the flesh from that skeleton, 
within which my Husband Lord abides.)



Shabad (Ang 659 of SGGS) : nainahu neer bahai 
  tan kheenaa bhe kes dhudh vaanee ||
(Tears well up in my eyes, 
my body has become weak, and my hair has become milky-white.)

roodhaa ka(n)Th sabadh nahee ucharai 
  ab kiaa kareh paraanee ||1||
(My throat is tight, and I cannot utter even one word; 
what can I do now? I am a mere mortal.)

(Some people have others, 
but I am forlorn and dishonored; I have only You, Lord.)

(I might as well just die crying, 
if You will not come into my mind.)

(O my soul, grasp the Support of the One Lord; 
give up your hopes in others.)

naanak naam dhiaaieeaai

(O Nanak, meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, 
your affairs shall be resolved.)


Shabad (Ang 261 of SGGS) Raag Gauree : aae prabh saranaagatee

(O God, I have come to Your Sanctuary, 
O Merciful Lord, Ocean of compassion.)

ek akhar har man basat

(One whose mind is filled with the One Word of the Lord, 
O Nanak, becomes totally blissful.)

Shabad : Tu dariyao daana beena



Shabad (Ang 25 of SGGS) : too dhareeaau dhaanaa beenaa 
  mai machhulee kaise a(n)t lahaa ||
(You are the River, All-knowing and All-seeing. 
I am just a fish -how can I find Your limit?)

jeh jeh dhekhaa teh teh too hai 
  tujh te nikasee fooT maraa ||1||
(Wherever I look, You are there. 
Outside of You, I would burst and die)

n jaanaa meau na jaanaa jaalee ||
(I do not know of the fisherman, and I do not know of the net.)

jaa dhukh laagai taa tujhai samaalee ||1||
(But when the pain comes, then I call upon You.)

too bharapoor jaaniaa mai dhoor ||
(You are present everywhere. I had thought that You were far away.)

jo kachh karee su terai hadhoor ||
(Whatever I do, I do in Your Presence.)

too dhekheh hau mukar paau ||
(You see all my actions, and yet I deny them.)

terai ka(n)m na terai nai ||2||
(I have not worked for You, or Your Name.)

jetaa dheh tetaa hau khaau ||
(Whatever You give me, that is what I eat.)

biaa dhar naahee kai dhar jaau ||
(There is no other door-unto which door should I go?)

naanak ek kahai aradhaas ||
(Nanak offers this one prayer:)

jeeau pi(n)dd sabh terai paas ||3||
(this body and soul are totally Yours.)

aape neRai dhoor aape hee 
  aape ma(n)jh miaanuo ||
(He Himself is near, and He Himself is far away; 
He Himself is in-between.)

aape vekhai sune aape hee 
  kudharat kare jahaanuo ||
(He Himself beholds, and He Himself listens. 
By His Creative Power, He created the world.)

jo tis bhaavai naanakaa 
  hukam soiee paravaanuo ||4||
(Whatever pleases Him, 
O Nanak-that Command is acceptable.)

(My mind is pierced through by the arrow of the Lord's Love.)


har dharasan kau meraa man bahu tapatai 
  jiau tirakhaava(n)t bin neer ||1||
(My mind yearns so deeply for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, 
like the thirsty man without water.)

merai man prem lago har teer ||
(My mind is pierced through by the arrow of the Lord's Love.)

hamaree bedhan har prabh jaanai 
  mere man a(n)tar kee peer ||1||
(The Lord God knows my anguish, 
and the pain deep within my mind.)

mere har preetam kee koiee baat 
  sunaavai so bhaiee so meraa beer ||2||
(Whoever tells me the Stories of my Beloved Lord,
is my Sibling of Destiny, and my friend.) 

mil mil sakhee gun kahu mere prabh ke 
  le satigur kee mat dheer ||3||
Come, and join together, O my companions; 
(let's sing the Glorious Praises of my God, and follow the comforting advice of the True Guru..)

jan naanak kee har aas pujaavahu 
har dharasan saa(n)t sareer ||4||
(Please fulfill the hopes of servant Nanak, O Lord; 
his body finds peace and tranquility in the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan.)

Shabad : Dukh na paave koye

 

Shabad (Ang 31 of SGGS) : gur kai bhaanai jo chalai 
  dhukh na paavai koi ||
(One who walks in harmony with the Guru's Will,
shall not suffer in pain.)


manmukh karam kamaavane
  jiau dhohaagan tan seegaar ||
(The self-willed manmukh performs religious rituals, 
like the unwanted bride decorating her body.)

sejai ka(n)t na aaviee 
  nit nit hoi khuaar ||
(Her Husband Lord does not come to her bed; 
day after day, she grows more and more miserable.)

pir kaa mahal na paaviee 
  naa dheesai ghar baar ||1||
(She does not attain the Mansion of His Presence; 
she does not find the door to His House.)

bhaiee re ik man naam dhiaai ||
(O Siblings of Destiny, meditate on the Naam with one-pointed mind.)

sa(n)taa sa(n)gat mil rahai 
  jap raam naam sukh pai ||1||
(Remain united with the Society of the Saints; 
  chant the Name of the Lord, and find peace.)

gurmukh sadhaa sohaaganee 
  pir raakhiaa ur dhaar ||
(The Gurmukh is the happy and pure soul-bride forever. 
She keeps her Husband Lord enshrined within her heart.)

miThaa boleh niv chaleh 
  sejai ravai bhataar ||
(Her speech is sweet, and her way of life is humble. 
She enjoys the Bed of her Husband Lord.)

sobhaava(n)tee sohaaganee 
  jin gur kaa het apaar ||2||
(The happy and pure soul-bride is noble; 
she has infinite love for the Guru.)

poorai bhaag satagur milai 
  jaa bhaagai kaa udhau hoi ||
(By perfect good fortune, one meets the True Guru, 
when one's destiny is awakened.)

a(n)tarahu dhukh bhram kaTeeaai 
  sukh paraapat hoi ||
(Suffering and doubt are cut out from within, 
and peace is obtained.)

gur kai bhaanai jo chalai 
  dhukh na paavai koi ||3||
(One who walks in harmony with the Guru's Will 
shall not suffer in pain.)

gur ke bhaane vich a(n)mrit hai 
  sahaje paavai koi ||
(The Amrit, the Ambrosial Nectar, is in the Guru's Will. 
With intuitive ease, it is obtained.)

jinaa paraapat tin peeaa 
  haumai vichahu khoi ||
(Those who are destined to have it, drink it in; 
their egotism is eradicated from within.)

naanak gurmukh naam dhiaaieeaai 
  sach milaavaa hoi ||4||
(O Nanak, the Gurmukh meditates on the Naam, 
and is united with the True Lord.)

(O Lord, Merciful to the meek, 
I have placed my faith in You;)

(along with all my family, I have come aboard Your boat.)


raam japau jeea aaise aaise || 
  dhraoo prahilaadh japio har jaise ||1||
(Just as Dhroo and Prahlaad meditated on the Lord, 
so should you meditate on the Lord, O my soul.)

dheen dhiaal bharose tere ||
(O Lord, Merciful to the meek, I have placed my faith in You;)

sabh paravaar chaRaiaa beRe ||1||
(along with all my family, I have come aboard Your boat.)

jaa tis bhaavai 
  taa hukam manaavai ||
(When it is pleasing to Him, 
then He inspires us to obey the Hukam of His Command.)

eis beRe kau 
  paar laghaavai ||2||
(He causes this boat to cross over.)

gur parasaadh 
  aaisee budh samaanee ||
(By Guru's Grace, 
such understanding is infused into me;)

chook giee 
  fir aavan jaanee ||3||
(my comings and goings in reincarnation have ended.)

kahu kabeer 
  bhaj saarigapaanee ||
(Says Kabeer, 
meditate, vibrate upon the Lord, the Sustainer of the earth.)

auravaar paar 
sabh eko dhaanee ||4||
(In this world, in the world beyond and everywhere, 
He alone is the Giver.)

Shabad (Ang 977 of SGGS) : har aavate kee khabar gur paiee 
  man tan aanadho aana(n)dh bhe 
  har aavate sune mere laal har laal ||
(From the Guru, I received news of the Lord's arrival. 
My mind and body became ecstatic and blissful, 
hearing of the arrival of the Lord, my Beloved Love, my Lord.)


mere man sev safal har ghaal ||
(O my mind, serve the Lord, and receive the fruits of your rewards.)

le gur pag ren ravaal ||
(Receive the dust of the Guru's feet.)

sabh dhaalidh bha(n)j dhukh dhaal ||
(All poverty will be eliminated, and your pains will disappear.)

har ho ho ho nadhar nihaal ||1||
(The Lord shall bless you with His Glance of Grace, and you shall be enraptured.) 

har kaa girahu har aap savaario
  har ra(n)g ra(n)g mahal bea(n)t laal laal har laal ||
(The Lord Himself embellishes His household. 
The Lord's Mansion of Love is studded with countless jewels, the jewels of the Beloved Lord.)

har aapanee kirapaa karee 
  aap gireh aaio 
  ham har kee gur keeiee hai baseeThee 
  ham har dhekhe bhiee nihaal nihaal nihaal nihaal ||1||
(The Lord Himself has granted His Grace, 
and He has come into my home.
The Guru is my advocate before the Lord. 
Gazing upon the Lord, I have become blissful, blissful, blissful.)

har aavate kee khabar gur paiee 
  man tan aanadho aana(n)dh bhe 
  har aavate sune mere laal har laal ||
(From the Guru, I received news of the Lord's arrival. 
My mind and body became ecstatic and blissful, 
hearing of the arrival of the Lord, my Beloved Love, my Lord.)

jan naanak har har mile 
  bhe galataan haal nihaal nihaal ||2||
(Servant Nanak has met with the Lord, Har, Har; 
he is intoxicated, enraptured, enraptured.)

(You are the Pure Cherisher; 
You Yourself are the great and immeasurable Lord and Master.)



meeraa(n) dhaanaa(n) dhil soch ||
(Think of the Lord in your mind, O wise one.)

muhabate man tan basai 
  sach saeh ba(n)dhee moch ||1||
(Enshrine love for the True Lord in your mind and body; 
He is the Liberator from bondage.)

dheedhane dheedhaar saahib 
  kachh nahee is kaa mol ||
(The value of seeing the Vision of the Lord Master cannot be estimated.)

paak paravadhagaar too khudh 
  khasam vaddaa atol ||1||
(You are the Pure Cherisher; 
You Yourself are the great and immeasurable Lord and Master.)

dhastageeree dheh dhilaavar 
  toohee toohee ek ||
(Give me Your help, O brave and generous Lord; You are the One, 
You are the Only Lord.)

karataar kudharat karan khaalak 
  naanak teree Tek ||2||
(O Creator Lord, by Your creative potency, You created the world; 
Nanak holds tight to Your support.)

  sunahu mere meetaa ||
(This is the Glory of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; 
listen, O my friends.)

mail khoiee koT agh hare 
  niramal bhe cheetaa ||1||
(Filth is washed away, millions of sins are dispelled, 
and the consciousness becomes immaculate and pure.)



pi(n)gul parabat paar pare 
  khal chatur bakeetaa ||
(The cripple crosses over the mountain, 
the fool becomes a wise man,)

a(n)dhule tirabhavan soojhiaa 
  gur bheT puneetaa ||1||
and the blind man sees the three worlds, 
by meeting with the True Guru and being purified.)

mahimaa saadhoo sa(n)g kee 
  sunahu mere meetaa ||
(This is the Glory of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; 
listen, O my friends.)

mail khoiee koT agh hare 
  niramal bhe cheetaa ||1||
Filth is washed away, millions of sins are dispelled, 
and the consciousness becomes immaculate and pure.

aaisee bhagat govi(n)dh kee 
  keeT hasatee jeetaa ||
(Such is devotional worship of the Lord of the Universe, 
that the ant can overpower the elephant.)

jo jo keeno aapano

(Meet the Holy Saint, take to His Sanctuary, 
and keep the perfect jewel of the Lord enshrined in your heart.)

(Superstition is the well, thirst for pleasure is the mud, 
and emotional attachment is the noose, so tight around your neck.)

I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.)

(With each and every breath, my mind remembers the Naam, the Name of the Lord; 
in this way, it finds the treasure of peace.)

the Purifier of sinners, Lord of the world.)

(I obtain millions of joys, comforts and kingdoms, 
if You inspire me to chant Your Name with my mouth, even for an instant.)

jaap taap bhagat saa pooree

(That alone is perfect (chanting, meditation, penance, and devotional worship service),
which is pleasing to God's Mind.)

they don't belong to you.)

(This world is like the perch of the bird on the tree.)

raam ras peeaa re ||

(I do not know about karma and good deeds; I do not know about Dharma and righteous living.
I am so greedy, chasing after Maya (money).)

  taa kis peh aakh sunaieeaai ||
(The Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, knows all about my state of mind; 
so who else should I go to and speak to?)

kahanai kathan na bheejai gobi(n)dh 
  har bhaavai paij rakhaieeaai ||
(The Lord, the Lord of the Universe, is not pleased by mere recitation of words; 
if it is pleasing to His Will, He preserves our honor.)

(Lord, I have seen all other shelters, 
but Yours alone remains for me.)

hoi dhiaal kirapaal prabh Thaakur

God the Lord and Master Himself listens to my prayer.)

(Meet me, O my Dear Beloved.

  bhaavai a(n)n na paanee ||
(Sleep does not come to my eyes, 
and I have no desire for food or water.)

paanee a(n)n na bhaavai mareeaai haavai 
  bin pir kiau sukh paieeaai ||
(I have no desire for food or water, and I am dying from the pain of separation.
Without my Husband Lord, how can I find peace?)

gur aagai karau bina(n)tee je gur bhaavai 
  jiau milai tivai milaieeaai ||
(I offer my prayers to the Guru; if it pleases the Guru, 
He shall unite me with Himself.)

aape mel le sukhadhaataa 
  aap miliaa ghar aae ||
(The Giver of peace has united me with Himself; 
He Himself has come to my home to meet me.)

naanak kaaman sadhaa suhaagan 
  naa pir marai na jaae ||4||

(My Lord of the Universe is great, unapproachable, unfathomable, primal, immaculate and formless.)

taa kee gat kahee na jaiee amit vaddiaaiee 
  meraa govi(n)dh alakh apaar jeeau ||
(His condition cannot be described; His Glorious Greatness is immeasurable. 
My Lord of the Universe is invisible and infinite.)

govi(n)dh alakh apaar apara(n)par 
  aap aapanaa jaanai ||
(The Lord of the Universe is invisible, infinite and unlimited. 
He Himself knows Himself.)

kiaa ieh ja(n)t vichaare kahe'eeh 
  jo tudh aakh vakhaanai ||
(What should these poor creatures say? 
How can they speak of and describe You?)

jis no nadhar kareh too(n) apanee 
  so gurmukh kare veechaar jeeau ||
(That Gurmukh who is blessed by Your Glance of Grace contemplates You.)

vaddaa meraa govi(n)dh agam agochar 
  aadh nira(n)jan nira(n)kaar jeeau ||1||
(My Lord of the Universe is great, unapproachable, unfathomable, primal, immaculate and formless.)


too(n) aadh purakh apara(n)par karataa teraa paar na paiaa jai jeeau ||
(You, O Lord, O Primal Being, are the Limitless Creator; Your limits cannot be found.)

too(n) ghaT ghaT a(n)tar sarab nira(n)tar sabh meh rahiaa samai jeeau ||
(You are pervading and permeating each and every heart, everywhere, You are contained in all.)

ghaT a(n)tar paarabraham paramesar taa kaa a(n)t na paiaa ||
(Within the heart is the Transcendent, Supreme Lord God, whose limits cannot be found.)

tis roop na rekh adhisaT agochar gurmukh alakh lakhaiaa ||
(He has no form or shape; He is unseen and unknown. The Gurmukh sees the unseen Lord.)

sadhaa ana(n)dh rahai dhin raatee sahaje naam samai jeeau ||
(He remains in continual ecstasy, day and night, and is spontaneously absorbed into the Naam.)

too(n) aadh purakh apara(n)par karataa teraa paar na paiaa jai jeeau ||2||
(You, O Lord, O Primal Being, are the Limitless Creator; Your limits cannot be found.)

too(n) sat paramesar sadhaa abinaasee har har gunee nidhaan jeeau ||
(You are the True, Transcendent Lord, forever imperishable. The Lord, Har, Har, is the treasure of virtue.)

har har prabh eko avar na koiee too(n) aape purakh sujaan jeeau ||
(The Lord God, Har, Har, is the One and only; there is no other at all. You Yourself are the all-knowing Lord.)

purakh sujaan too(n) paradhaan tudh jevadd avar na koiee ||
(You are the all-knowing Lord, the most exalted and auspicious; there is no other as great as You.)

teraa sabadh sabh too(n)hai varateh too(n) aape kareh su hoiee ||
(The Word of Your Shabad is pervading in all; whatever You do, comes to pass.)

har sabh meh raviaa eko soiee gurmukh lakhiaa har naam jeeau ||
(The One Lord God is permeating all; the Gurmukh comes to understand the Lord's Name.)

too(n) sat paramesar sadhaa abinaasee har har gunee nidhaan jeeau ||3||
(You are the True, Transcendent Lord, forever imperishable. The Lord, Har, Har, is the treasure of virtue.)

(When it pleases Your Will, we obtain greatness through Your Shabad.)

gurmukh budh paieeaai aap gavaieeaai sabadhe rahiaa samaiee ||
(The Gurmukh obtains wisdom, and eliminates his self-conceit, and remains absorbed in the Shabad.)

teraa sabadh agochar gurmukh paieeaai naanak naam samai jeeau ||
(The Gurmukh obtains Your incomprehensible Shabad; O Nanak, he remains merged in the Naam.)

sabh too(n)hai karataa sabh teree vaddiaaiee jiau bhaavai tivai chalai jeeau ||4||
(You are the Creator of all, and all greatness is Yours. As it pleases Your Will, so do we act.)

(If only someone would come, and lead me to meet my Darling Beloved; I would sell myself to him.)

dharasan har dhekhan kai taiee ||
(I long for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan.)

kirapaa kareh taa satigur meleh har har naam dhiaaiee ||1||
(When the Lord shows Mercy unto me, then I meet the True Guru; I meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.)

je sukh dheh ta tujheh araadhee dhukh bhee tujhai dhiaaiee ||2||
(If You will bless me with happiness, then I will worship and adore You. Even in pain, I will meditate on You.)

je bhukh dheh ta it hee raajaa dhukh vich sookh manaiee ||3||
(Even if You give me hunger, I will still feel satisfied; I am joyful, even in the midst of sorrow.)

tan man kaaT kaaT sabh arapee vich aganee aap jalaiee ||4||
(I would cut my mind and body apart into pieces, and offer them all to You; I would burn myself in fire.)

pakhaa feree paanee ddovaa jo dheveh so khaiee ||5||
(I wave the fan over You, and carry water for You; whatever You give me, I take.)

naanak gareeb ddeh piaa dhuaarai har mel laih vaddiaaiee ||6||
(Poor Nanak has fallen at the Lord's Door; please, O Lord, unite me with Yourself, by Your Glorious Greatness.)

akhee kaadd dharee charanaa tal sabh dharatee fir mat paiee ||7||
(Taking out my eyes, I place them at Your Feet; after travelling over the entire earth, I have come to understand this.)

je paas bahaaleh taa tujheh araadhee je maar kaddeh bhee dhiaaiee ||8||
(If You seat me near You, then I worship and adore You. Even if You beat me and drive me out, I will still meditate on You.)

je lok salaahe taa teree upamaa je ni(n)dhai ta chhodd na jaiee ||9||
(If people praise me, the praise is Yours. Even if they slander me, I will not leave You.)

je tudh val rahai taa koiee kih aakhau tudh visariaai mar jaiee ||10||
(If You are on my side, then anyone can say anything. But if I were to forget You, then I would die.)

vaar vaar jaiee gur uoopar pai pairee sa(n)t manaiee ||11||
(I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to my Guru; falling at His Feet, I surrender to the Saintly Guru.)

naanak vichaaraa bhiaa dhivaanaa har tau dharasan kai taiee ||12||
(Poor Nanak has gone insane, longing for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan.)

jhakhaR jhaagee meeh varasai bhee gur dhekhan jaiee ||13||
(Even in violent storms and torrential rain, I go out to catch a glimpse of my Guru.)

samu(n)dh saagar hovai bahu khaaraa gursikh la(n)gh gur peh jaiee ||14||
(Even though the oceans and the salty seas are very vast, the GurSikh will cross over it to get to his Guru.)

jiau praanee jal bin hai marataa tiau sikh gur bin mar jaiee ||15||
(Just as the mortal dies without water, so does the Sikh die without the Guru.)

jiau dharatee sobh kare jal barasai tiau sikh gur mil bigasaiee ||16||
(Just as the earth looks beautiful when the rain falls, so does the Sikh blossom forth meeting the Guru.)

sevak kaa hoi sevak varataa kar kar binau bulaiee ||17||
(I long to be the servant of Your servants; I call upon You reverently in prayer.)

naanak kee bena(n)tee har peh gur mil gur sukh paiee ||18||
(Nanak offers this prayer to the Lord, that he may meet the Guru, and find peace.)

too aape gur chelaa hai aape gur vich dhe tujheh dhiaaiee ||19||
(You Yourself are the Guru, and You Yourself are the chaylaa, the disciple; through the Guru, I meditate on You.)

jo tudh seveh so toohai hoveh tudh sevak paij rakhaiee ||20||
(Those who serve You, become You. You preserve the honor of Your servants.)

bha(n)ddaar bhare bhagatee har tere jis bhaavai tis dhevaiee ||21||
(O Lord, Your devotional worship is a treasure over-flowing. One who loves You, is blessed with it.)

jis too(n) dheh soiee jan paae hor nihafal sabh chaturaiee ||22||
(That humble being alone receives it, unto whom You bestow it. All other clever tricks are fruitless.)

simar simar simar gur apunaa soiaa man jaagaiee ||23||
(Remembering, remembering, remembering my Guru in meditation, my sleeping mind is awakened.)

eik dhaan ma(n)gai naanak vechaaraa har dhaasan dhaas karaiee ||24||
(Poor Nanak begs for this one blessing, that he may become the slave of the slaves of the Lord.)

je gur jhiRake ta meeThaa laagai je bakhase ta gur vaddiaaiee ||25||
(Even if the Guru rebukes me, He still seems very sweet to me. And if He actually forgives me, that is the Guru's greatness.)

gurmukh boleh so thai paae manmukh kichh thai na paiee ||26||
(That which Gurmukh speaks is certified and approved. Whatever the self-willed manmukh says is not accepted.)

paalaa kakar varaf varasai gursikh gur dhekhan jaiee ||27||
(Even in the cold, the frost and the snow, the GurSikh still goes out to see his Guru.)

sabh dhinas rain dhekhau gur apunaa vich akhee gur pair dharaiee ||28||
(All day and night, I gaze upon my Guru; I install the Guru's Feet in my eyes.)

anek upaav karee gur kaaran gur bhaavai so thai paiee ||29||
(I make so many efforts for the sake of the Guru; only that which pleases the Guru is accepted and approved.)

rain dhinas gur charan araadhee dhiaa karahu mere saiee ||30||
(Night and day, I worship the Guru's Feet in adoration; have Mercy upon me, O my Lord and Master.)

naanak kaa jeeau pi(n)dd guroo hai gur mil tirapat aghaiee ||31||
(The Guru is Nanak's body and soul; meeting the Guru, he is satisfied and satiated.)

naanak kaa prabh poor rahio hai jat kat tat gosaiee ||32||
(Nanak's God is perfectly permeating and all-pervading. Here and there and everywhere, the Lord of the Universe.)

Shabad : Bin bhaga satsag na labhai



Shabad (Ang 95 of SGGS) : bin bhaagaa satasa(n)g na labhai 
  bin sa(n)gat mail bhareejai jeeau
(Without good fortune, the Sat Sangat is not found; 
without this Sangat, people are stained with filth and pollution. - {The Soul finds peace,
and becomes pure in the good company of the Holy Sangat})



har jan sa(n)t 
  milahu mere bhaiee ||
(O servants of the Lord, O Saints, 
O my Siblings of Destiny, let us join together!)

meraa har prabh dhasahu 
  mai bhukh lagaiee ||
(Show me the way to my Lord God
-I am so hungry for Him!)

meree saradhaa poor jagajeevan dhaate 
  mil har dharasan man bheejai jeeau ||1||
(Please reward my faith, O Life of the World, O Great Giver. 
Obtaining the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, my mind is fulfilled.)

mil satasa(n)g 
  bolee har baanee ||
(Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, 
I chant the Bani of the Lord's Word.)

har har kathaa 
  merai man bhaanee ||
(The Sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, is pleasing to my mind.)

har har a(n)mrit har man bhaavai 
  mil satigur a(n)mrit peejai jeeau ||2||
(The Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord's Name, Har, Har, is so sweet to my mind.
Meeting the True Guru, I drink in this Ambrosial Nectar.)

vaddabhaagee har sa(n)gat paaveh ||
(By great good fortune, the Lord's Congregation is found,)

bhaagaheen bhram choTaa khaaveh ||
(while the unfortunate ones wander around in doubt, enduring painful beatings.)

bin bhaagaa satasa(n)g na labhai 
  bin sa(n)gat mail bhareejai jeeau ||3||
(Without good fortune, the Sat Sangat is not found; 
without this Sangat, people are stained with filth and pollution.)

mai aai milahu 
  jagajeevan piaare ||
(Come and meet me, 
O Life of the World, my Beloved.)

har har naam 
  dhiaa man dhaare ||
(Please bless me with Your Mercy, and enshrine Your Name, Har, Har, within my mind.)

gurmat naam meeThaa man bhaiaa 
  jan naanak naam man bheejai jeeau ||4||
(Through the Guru's Teachings, the Sweet Name has become pleasing to my mind.
Servant Nanak's mind is drenched and delighted with the Naam.)

Shabad : Lakh khushian patshahian



Shabad (Ang 44 of SGGS) : lakh khuseeaa paatisaaheeaa 
  je satigur nadhar karei ||
(Hundreds of thousands of princely pleasures are enjoyed, 
if the True Guru bestows His Glance of Grace.)



sabhe thok paraapate 
  je aavai ik hath ||
(All things are received 
if the One is obtained.)

janam padhaarath safal hai 
  je sachaa sabadh kath ||
(The precious gift of this human life becomes fruitful 
when one chants the True Word of the Shabad.)

gur te mahal paraapate 
  jis likhiaa hovai math ||1||
(One who has such destiny written on his forehead,
he enters the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, through the Guru.)

mere man ekas siau chit lai ||
(O my mind, focus your consciousness on the One.)

ekas bin sabh dha(n)dh hai 
  sabh mithiaa moh mai ||1||
(Without the One, all entanglements are worthless; 
emotional attachment to Maya is totally false.)

lakh khuseeaa paatisaaheeaa 
  je satigur nadhar karei ||
(Hundreds of thousands of princely pleasures are enjoyed, 
if the True Guru bestows His Glance of Grace.)

nimakh ek har naam dhei 
  meraa man tan seetal hoi ||
(If He bestows the Name of the Lord, for even a moment, 
my mind and body are cooled and soothed.)

jis kau poorab likhiaa 
  tin satigur charan gahe ||2||
(Those who have such pre-ordained destiny, 
hold tight to the Feet of the True Guru.)

safal moorat safalaa ghaRee 
  jit sache naal piaar ||
(Fruitful is that moment, and fruitful is that time, 
when one is in love with the True Lord.)

dhookh sa(n)taap na lagiee 
  jis har kaa naam adhaar ||
(Suffering and sorrow do not touch,
to those who have the Support of the Name of the Lord.)

baeh pakaR gur kaaddiaa 
  soiee utariaa paar ||3||
(Grasping him by the arm, the Guru lifts them up and out, 
and carries them across to the other side.)

thaan suhaavaa pavit hai
  jithai sa(n)t sabhaa ||
(Embellished and immaculate is that place,
where the Saints gather together.)

ddoiee tis hee no milai,
  jin pooraa guroo labhaa ||
(He alone finds shelter, 
who has met the Perfect Guru.)

naanak badhaa ghar tahaa(n)
  jithai mrit na janam jaraa ||4||
(Nanak builds his house upon that site,
where there is no death, no birth, and no old age.)
