Shabad : Heere jaisaa janam hai

Shabad (Ang 156 of SGGS) : heere jaisaa janam hai
  kauddee badhale jai ||1||
(Human life is such a precious jewel, 
but it is being lost in exchange for a mere shell)


rain gavaiee soi kai 
  dhivas gavaiaa khai ||
(The nights are wasted sleeping, 
and the days are wasted eating.)

heere jaisaa janam hai 
  kauddee badhale jai ||1||
(Human life is such a precious jewel, 
but it is being lost in exchange for a mere shell)

naam na jaaniaa raam kaa ||
(You do not know the Name of the Lord.)

mooRe fir paachhai pachhutaeh re ||1||
(You fool - you shall regret and repent in the end!)

anataa dhan dharanee dhare anat na chaahiaa jai ||
(You bury your temporary wealth in the ground, but how can you love that which is temporary?)

anat kau chaahan jo ge se aae anat gavai ||2||
(Those who have departed, after craving for temporary wealth, have returned home without this temporary wealth.)

aapan leeaa je milai taa sabh ko bhaagaTh hoi ||
(If people could gather it in by their own efforts, then everyone would be so lucky.)

karamaa upar nibaRai je lochai sabh koi ||3||
(According to the karma of past actions, one's destiny unfolds, even though everyone wants to be so lucky.)

naanak karanaa jin keeaa soiee saar karei ||
(O Nanak, the One who created the creation - He alone takes care of it.)

hukam na jaapee khasam kaa 
  kisai vaddaiee dhei ||4||
(The Hukam of our Lord and Master's Command cannot be known; 
He Himself blesses us with greatness.)

Shabad : Hira lal anmol janam hai





Shabad (Ang 335 of SGGS) : heeraa laal amol janam hai 
kauddee badhalai haario re |
(Human birth is a priceless jewel, 
which has been squandered in exchange for a worthless shell.)


jete jatan karat te ddoobe 
  bhav saagar nahee taario re ||
(Those who try to do things by their own wrong efforts are drowned in the terrifying world-ocean;
they cannot cross over.)

karam dharam karate bahu sa(n)jam 
  aha(n)budh man jaario re ||1||
(Those who practice religious rituals and strict self-discipline without concern for humanity 
- their egotistical pride shall consume their minds.)

saas graas ko dhaato Thaakur

(Your Lord and Master has given you the breath of life and food to sustain you;

you do not contemplate the Lord in your heart.)

aunamat maan hirio man maahee 
  gur kaa sabadh na dhaario re ||2||
(Intoxicated with pride, you cheat yourself; 
you have not enshrined the Word of the Guru's Shabad within your mind.)

suaadh lubhat i(n)dhree ras prerio 
  madh ras lait bikaario re ||
(Those who are deluded by sensual pleasures, 
who are tempted by sexual delights and enjoy wine are corrupt.)

karam bhaag sa(n)tan sa(n)gaane 
  kaasaT loh udhaario re ||3||
(But those who, through destiny and good karma, join the Society of the Saints,
float over the ocean, like iron attached to wood.)

dhaavat jon janam bhram thaake 
  ab dhukh kar ham haario re ||
(I have wandered in doubt and confusion, through birth and reincarnation;
now, I am so tired. I am suffering in pain and wasting away.)

keh kabeer gur milat mahaa ras 
  prem bhagat nisataario re ||4||
(Says Kabeer, meeting with the Guru, I have obtained supreme joy; 
my love and devotion have saved me.)

Shabad (Ang 266 of SGGS) : Je ko apni sobha kore (Sukhmani Sahib)
(If you long for honor for yourself,)

saadhasa(n)g ieh haumai chhorai ||
(then renounce your ego in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.)



chaar padhaarath je ko maagai ||
(One who prays for the four cardinal blessings)

saadh janaa kee sevaa laagai ||
(should commit himself to the service of the Saints.)

je ko aapunaa dhookh miTaavai ||
(If you wish to erase your sorrows,)

har har naam ridhai sadh gaavai ||
(sing the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, within your heart.)

je ko apunee sobhaa lorai ||
(If you long for honor for yourself,)

saadhasa(n)g ieh haumai chhorai ||
(then renounce your ego in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.)

je ko janam maran te ddarai ||
(If you fear the cycle of birth and death,)

saadh janaa kee saranee parai ||
(then seek the Sanctuary of the Holy.)

jis jan kau prabh dharas piaasaa ||
(Those who thirst for the Blessed Vision of God's Darshan)

naanak taa kai bal bal jaasaa ||5||
(- Nanak is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to them.)

Shabad : Santa ke karaj


Shabad (Ang 783 of SGGS) : sa(n)taa ke kaaraj aap khaloiaa 
  har ka(n)m karaavan aaiaa raam ||
(The Lord Himself has stood up to resolve the affairs of the Saints; 
He has come to complete their tasks.)

dharat suhaavee taal suhaavaa 
  vich a(n)mirat jal chhaiaa raam ||
(The land is beautiful, and the pool is beautiful; 
within it is contained the Ambrosial Water.)

a(n)mirat jal chhaiaa pooran saaj karaiaa 
  sagal manorath poore ||
(The Ambrosial Water is filling it, and my job is perfectly complete; all my desires are fulfilled.)

jai jai kaar bhiaa jag a(n)tar 
  laathe sagal visoore ||
(Congratulations are pouring in from all over the world; 
all my sorrows are eliminated.)

pooran purakh achut abinaasee 
  jas vedh puraanee gaiaa ||
(The Vedas and the Puraanas sing the Praises of the Perfect, 
Unchanging, Imperishable Primal Lord.)

apanaa biradh rakhiaa paramesar 
  naanak naam dhiaaiaa ||1||
(The Transcendent Lord has kept His promise, and confirmed His nature; 
Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.)

puchhan gal ieemaan dhee kaajee mulaa(n) ikaThe hoiee |
(Qazi and maulvis got together and began discussing religion.)

vaddaa saa(n)g varataiaa lakh na sakai kudharat koiee |
(A great fantasy has been created and no one could understood its mystery.)

puchhan fol kitaab no hi(n)dhoo vaddaa k musalamaanoiee ?
(They asked Baba Nanak to open and search in his book whether Hindu is great or the Muslim.)

baabaa aakhe haajeeaa subh amalaa baajhahu dhono roiee |
(Baba replied to the pilgrim hajis, that, without good deeds both will have to weep and wail.)

hi(n)dhoo musalamaan dhui dharageh a(n)dhar lahan na ddoiee |
(Only by being a Hindu or a Muslim, one can not get accepted in the court of the Almighty Lord. 
"You will have to do good deeds everyday, in order to be accepted by the Lord")

kachaa ra(n)g kusu(n)bh dhaa paanee dhotai thir na rahoiee |
(As the colour of safflower is impermanent and is washed away in water, likewise the colours of religiosity are also temporary.)

karan bakheelee aap vich raam raheem kuthai khaloiee |
{(Followers of both the religions) In their expositions, denounce Ram and Rahim.}

raeh saitaanee dhuneeaa goiee ||33||
(The whole world is following the ways of Satan.)

(Show mercy unto me, that I may sing Your Glorious Praises.)

naanak naam japat sukh paavaa ||
(O Nanak, chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, I obtain peace.)


too vadd dhaataa a(n)tarajaamee ||
(You are the Great Giver, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.)

sabh meh raviaa pooran prabh suaamee ||1||
(God, the Perfect Lord and Master, is permeating and pervading in all.)

mere prabh preetam naam adhaaraa ||
(The Name of my Beloved God is my only support.)

hau sun sun jeevaa naam tumaaraa ||1||
(I live by hearing, continually hearing Your Name.)

teree saran satigur mere poore ||
(I seek Your Sanctuary, O my Perfect True Guru.)

man niramal hoi sa(n)taa dhoore ||2||
(My mind is purified by the dust of the Saints.)

charan kamal hiradhai ur dhaare ||
(I have enshrined His Lotus Feet within my heart.)

tere dharasan kau jaiee balihaare ||3||
(I am a sacrifice to the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.)

Shabad : Nanak, dukhiya sab sansar




Shabad (Ang 953-954 of SGGS) : naanak dhukheeaa sabh sa(n)saar ||
(O Nanak, the whole world is suffering.)

baalee rovai naeh bhataar ||
(The young woman weeps because she has no husband.)




saha(n)sar dhaan dhe i(n)dhr roaaiaa ||
(Branded with a thousand marks of disgrace, Indra cried in shame.)

paras raam rovai ghar aaiaa ||
Paras Raam returned home crying.)

ajai su rovai bheekhiaa khai ||
(Ajai cried and wept, when he was made to eat the manure he had given, pretending it was charity.)

aaisee dharageh milai sajai ||
(Such is the punishment received in the Court of the Lord.)

rovai raam nikaalaa bhiaa ||
(Rama wept when he was sent into exile,)

seetaa lakhaman vichhuR giaa ||
(and separated from Sita and Lakhshman.)

rovai dhahasir la(n)k gavai || jin seetaa aadhee ddauroo vai ||
(The ten-headed Raawan, who stole away Sita with the beat of his tambourine, wept when he lost Sri Lanka.)

roveh paa(n)ddav bhe majoor || jin kai suaamee rahat hadhoor ||
(The Paandavas once lived in the Presence of the Lord; they were made slaves, and wept.)

rovai janamejaa khui giaa ||
(Janmayjaa wept, that he had lost his way.)

ekee kaaran paapee bhiaa ||
(One mistake, and he became a sinner.)

roveh sekh masaik peer ||
(The Shaykhs, Pirs and spiritual teachers weep;)

a(n)t kaal mat laagai bheeR ||
(at the very last instant, they suffer in agony.)

roveh raaje ka(n)n paRai ||
(The kings weep - their ears are cut;)

ghar ghar maageh bheekhiaa jai ||
(they go begging from house to house.)

roveh kirapan sa(n)cheh dhan jai ||
(The miser weeps; he has to leave behind the wealth he has gathered.)

pa(n)ddit roveh giaan gavai ||
(The Pandit, the religious scholar, weeps when his learning is gone.)

baalee rovai naeh bhataar ||
(The young woman weeps because she has no husband.)

naanak dhukheeaa sabh sa(n)saar ||
(O Nanak, the whole world is suffering.)

ma(n)ne naau soiee jin jai ||
(He alone is victorious, who believes in the Lord's Name.)

aauree karam na lekhai lai ||1||
(No other action is of any account.)
