(I worship and adore my Guru; 

the Guru is the Lord of the Universe.)

(My Guru is the Supreme Lord God; 

  the Guru is the Lord God.)

gur meraa dheau 

  alakh abheau ||

(My Guru is divine, 

  invisible and mysterious.)

sarab pooj 

  charan gur seau ||1||

(I serve at the Guru's feet, 

which are worshipped by all.)

gur bin avar 

  naahee mai thaau ||

(Without the Guru, 

I have no other place at all.)

anadhin japau 

  guroo gur naau ||1||

(Night and day, I chant, 

chant the Name of Guru, Guru.)

gur meraa giaan 

  gur ridhai dhiaan ||

(The Guru is my spiritual wisdom, 

the Guru is the meditation within my heart.)

  purakh bhagavaan ||

(The Guru is the Lord of the World, 

the Primal Being, the Lord God.)

gur kee saran 

  rahau kar jor ||

(With my palms pressed together, 

I remain in the Guru's Sanctuary.)

guroo binaa 

  mai naahee hor ||2||

(Without the Guru, 

I have no other at all.)

gur bohith 

  taare bhav paar ||

(The Guru is the boat to cross over the terrifying world-ocean.)

gur sevaa 

  jam te chhuTakaar ||

(Serving the Guru, 

one is released from the Messenger of Death.)

a(n)dhakaar meh 

  gur ma(n)tr ujaaraa ||

(In the darkness, 

the Guru's Mantra shines forth.)

  sagal nisataaraa ||3||

(With the Guru, 

all are saved.)

(The Perfect Guru is found, 

by great good fortune.)

gur kee sevaa 

  dhookh na laagee ||

(Serving the Guru, 

pain does not afflict anyone.)

gur kaa sabadh 

  na meTai koi ||

(No one can erase the Word of the Guru's Shabad.)

(O my companions and friends, 

my Husband Lord is the merchant.)

har naamuo vana(n)jaRiaa 

  ras mol apaaraa raam ||

(I have purchased the Lord's Name; 

its sweetness and value are unlimited.)

mol amolo sach ghar ddolo 

  prabh bhaavai taa mu(n)dh bhalee ||

(His value is invaluable; the Beloved dwells in His true home. 

If it is pleasing to God, then He blesses His bride.)

eik sa(n)g har kai kareh raleeaa 

  hau pukaaree dhar khalee ||

(Some enjoy sweet pleasures with the Lord, 

while I stand crying at His door.)

karan kaaran samarath sreedhar 

  aap kaaraj saare ||

(The Creator, the Cause of causes, 

the All-powerful Lord Himself arranges our affairs.)

naanak nadharee dhan sohaagan 

  sabadh abh saadhaare ||3||

(O Nanak, blessed is the soul-bride, upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace; 

she enshrines the Word of the Shabad in her heart.)

  basahu mere man maahee ||

(Lord, You are the Giver of all beings; 

please, come to dwell within my mind.)

(That heart, within which Your lotus feet are enshrined, 

suffers no darkness or doubt.)

Thaakur jaa simaraa

(O Lord Master, wherever I remember You, 

there I find You.)

  prabh kau sadhaa salaahee ||1||

(Show Mercy to me, O God, Cherisher of all, 

that I may sing Your Praises forever.) 

saas saas teraa naam samaarau 

  tum hee kau prabh aahee ||

(With each and every breath, I contemplate Your Name; 

O God, I long for You alone.)

(O Nanak, my support is the Creator Lord; 

I have renounced all other hopes.)

{The Lord is omniscient ("sar-vagya" - all-knowing),  

omnipotent ("sarva-saktiman" - all-powerful),

and omnipresent ("sarv-vyapi" - present everywhere.)}

(By Your Grace, 

I am forever in peace.)

(Now and then, here and there, 

You, only You.)

(By Your Grace, 

I am forever in peace.)

tore bharose magahar basio mere 

  tan kee tapat bujhaiee ||

(Relying upon You, I can live even in the cursed place of Magahar; 

You have put out the fire of my body.)

pahile dharasan magahar paio 

  fun kaasee base aaiee ||2||

(First, I obtained the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan in Magahar; 

then, I came to dwell at Benares.)

jaisaa magahar taisee kaasee 

  ham ekai kar jaanee ||

(As is Magahar, so is Benares; 

I see them as one and the same.)

ham niradhan jiau ih dhan paiaa 

  marate fooT gumaanee ||3||

(I am poor, but I have obtained this wealth of the Lord; 

the proud are bursting with pride, and die.)

karai gumaan chubheh tis soolaa 

  ko kaaddan kau naahee ||

(One who takes pride in himself is stuck with thorns; 

no one can pull them out.)

ajai su chobh kau bilal bilaate 

  narake ghor pachaahee ||4||

(Here, he cries bitterly, and hereafter, 

he burns in the most hideous hell.)

kavan narak kiaa surag bichaaraa 

  sa(n)tan dhouoo raadhe ||

(What is hell, and what is heaven? 

The Saints reject them both.)

ham kaahoo kee kaan na kaddate 

  apane gur parasaadhe ||5||

(I have no obligation to either of them, 

by the Grace of my Guru.)

ab tau jai chadde si(n)ghaasan 

  mile hai saari(n)gapaanee ||

(Now, I have mounted to the throne of the Lord; 

I have met the Lord, the Sustainer of the World.)

raam kabeeraa ek bhe hai 

  koi na sakai pachhaanee ||6||

(The Lord and Kabeer have become one. 

No one can tell them apart.)

  teraa naam khu(n)dhakaaraa ||

(I am blind; O Creator Lord, 

Your Name, is my only anchor and support.)

mai gareeb mai masakeen 

  teraa naam hai adhaaraa ||1||

(I am poor, and I am meek. 

Your Name is my only support.)

kareemaa(n) raheemaa(n) 

  alaeh too gana(n)ee ||

(O beautiful Lord, benevolent and merciful Lord, 

O Lord, You are so wealthy and generous.)

haajaraa hajoor 

  dhar pes too(n) mana(n)ee ||1||

(You are ever-present in every presence, 

within and before me.)

dhareeaau too dhiha(n)dh too 

  biseeaar too dhanee ||

(You are the river of life, You are the Giver of all; 

You are so very wealthy.)

dheh leh ek too(n) 

  dhigar ko nahee ||2||

(You alone give, and You alone take away; 

there is no other at all.)

too(n) dhaanaa(n) too(n) beenaa(n) 

  mai beechaar kiaa karee ||

(You are wise, You are the supreme seer; 

how could I make You an object of thought?)

naame che suaamee 

  bakhasa(n)dh too(n) haree ||3||

(O Lord and Master of Naam Dayv, 

You are the merciful Lord of forgiveness.)

Shabad : Dhan nanak teri wadi kamai

 

Blessed is Guru Nanak Dev who has earned great spiritual achievements.

{“Kamai” in the spiritual parlance means accumulating spiritual wealth as a result of dedicated meditation and religious discipline. It is not related to worldly wealth or earning. It is a “Kamai” of the Naam (Name) of the Almighty, of the Shabad (Sabda in Sanskrit) or spreading the spiritual message of the Almighty Lord.}

sidh bolan subh bachan 

  dhan naanak teree vaddee kamaiee |

(Now, speaking benign words, the siddhs said, 

Nanak, your achievement is great.)

Shabad (Vaaran pauree 44) : si'dh goshaT te mulataana-feree

(Discussion with the siddhs and tour of Multan)

baabe keetee sidh gosaT 

  sabadh saa(n)t sidhaa(n) vich aaiee |

(Baba has discussions with the siddhs,

and because of the energy of the sabad those siddhs attained peace.)

jin melaa sivaraat dhaa 

  khaT dharasan aadhes karaiee |

(Conquering the Sivratri fair 

Baba made the followers of six philosophies bow.)

sidh bolan subh bachan 

  dhan naanak teree vaddee kamaiee |

(Now, speaking benign words, the siddhs said, 

Nanak, your achievement is great.)

vaddaa purakh paragaTiaa 

  kalijug a(n)dhar jot jagaiee |

(You, emerging like a greatman,

in kaliyug, you have diffused the light (of knowledge) all around.)

melio baabaa uThiaa 

  mulataane dhee jaarat jaiee |

(Getting up from that fair, 

Baba went to the pilgrimage of Multan.)

ago(n) peer mulataan dhe 

  dhudh kaToraa bhar lai aaiee |

(In Multan, the pir presented,

a bowl of milk filled up to brims (which means That faquirs here are already in plenty).)

baabe kadd kar bagal te 

  cha(n)belee dhudh vich milaiee |

(Baba took out a jasmine flower from his bag,

and floated it on the milk (which meant that he wa not going to put anybody to trouble).)

jiau saagar vich ga(n)g samaiee ||44||

(It was such a scene as if the Ganges were merging into the sea.)

Shabad : Bhola Vaid Na Jaanaee

 

Shabad (Ang 1279 of SGGS) : bholaa vaidh na jaaniee 

  karak kaleje maeh ||1||

(The foolish physician did not know,

that the pain was in the mind.)

vaidh bulaiaa vaidhagee 

  pakaR dda(n)ddole baa(n)h ||

(The physician was called in; 

he touched my arm and felt my pulse.)

bholaa vaidh na jaaniee 

  karak kaleje maeh ||1||

(The foolish physician did not know,

that the pain was in the mind.)

vaidhaa vaidh suvaidh too 

  pahilaa(n) rog pachhaan ||

(O physician, you are a competent physician, 

if you first diagnose the disease.)

aaisaa dhaaroo loR lahu 

  jit va(n)n(j)ai rogaa ghaan ||

(Prescribe such a remedy, 

by which all sorts of illnesses may be cured.)

jit dhaaroo rog uThieh 

  tan sukh vasai aai ||

(Administer that medicine, which will cure the disease, 

and allow peace to come and dwell in the body.)

rog gavaieh aapanaa 

  ta naanak vaidh sadhai ||2||

(Only when you are rid of your own disease, 

O Nanak, will you be known as a physician.)
